downloading music

since im a novice to having my very own computer, what outlets do you recommend for mp3's.

limewire's a good one. you can also download films.

is limewire free?

Soulseek, but shhhhh, don't talk about it too much or they'll ruin it too.

Nope a total freebie actually DOES do what napster said it would.... it really is geared for new bands and stuff....but all yer fave copyrighted stuff is there too.

Good for live gigs tho, which are not iegalif it's a bootleg and you own the song on an album (since no mechanical copyright exists and you own a publishing license for the song)

i've tried soulseek and i wasn't pleased. it was complicated and not very user-friendly, i kept getting 'banned' from servers, and i found limewire to be much easier to use.

p.s. i miss the old napster!

i've not used the DOS version in about 3 years soI dunno. I do know people will ban you for not sharing anything.

Limewire's OK too, all I have against it is that the Linux one is in java...= fat And last time I used it....there was less stuff on it than SS.

May take another look. #I like the wishlish in soulseek it has found me SO many tracks I thought I would never hear again.

A quick straw poll reveals that for me at any rate, soulseek has the edge. especially since at least halflimewire's results are viri (not even Linux compatible ones :D )

What exactly is "spyware" anyway?

I've thought about joining Slsk but am a little nervous about entering in any personal information (e mail, name and country of origin).

I assume a few have you avoided being served court papers from the RIAA? Is this a concern of the folks who download tunes from slsk?

It sounds great and I'd love to get more music especially electronic/DJ sets that are hard to find anyway but am a little nervous about using that service.

Anyway, I go the legal route by downloading from emusic. Not free but still pretty cheap.

I would appreciate some feedback from the folks using slsk.

spyware are cookies that track your movements on the net. it is advisable that yo regularly run programs such as spybot, or adaware to remove them, as they will slow your computer down. plus you don't really want any company out there knowing what you do on the net do you.

i've never had any problems with S0lsk, except that sometimes it is not working, but then it is free anyway. it is good to find odd hard to find stuff that you can't easily buy on CD

Thanks for the info. It's now up and running :)

So far slsk has not been the target of any legal action. I find it pretty easy to use, and it has a chat function so you can talk to the people you're sharing with. You also have control over who has access to your music.

If you go around downloading every newest top 20 album, you are not only a git (unless a cd or two isbeyond your means I suppose in which case no one loses and you may as well work away) , you WILL get fucked over. I know this because I download things OBSESSIVELY....but the stuff I download is old, and obscure, ancient music I either already bought rights to, old BBC shows I already paid for, and live boots.

Thick tart in work (the boss i may add) asks me to get some fucking piece of shite chick flick that aint out yet....BANG cut off...apologize......continue downloading steve things.......chick asks for some Album.......BANG cut off.....apologize........bro get's asked for some chick flick...same again. Bullshit is now banned :D

And of course my own music is shared freely so i put my gob where my mouth is :D

I found soulseek to be a royal pain like you did Chrissy,whereas Limewire really is a doddle to use..I'd recommend limewire to anyone

IMHO slsk doesn't work very well for unknown titles, the problem is that's not very popular. Kazaa Lite is light, free from publicity and has a huge database. I still think it's the best one.

i've never seen a .pdf or zip file show up on limewire! i don't know why or how you got them on to your computer.

thanks for the help. I just got done downloading limewire. I forgot about limewire which i used to use on my friend's computer. It seem to improve over the past year.

Now what i would really like to find is galaxy 500's cover of ceremony.
