Had it. Deleted it. Don't allow the kids to re-instal it. Found it to be annoying. Potentail source of virus and trojans. Email me if you need to get in contact.

To avoid nasty popups and virii and other ad-induced bothers, install a program like Gaim which allows you to converse from major chat programs/servers through its sole instant messaging platform.

Supports AOL's AIM, MSN's Messenger, Yahoo's IM, and others.

Gaim forever....and I see there IS a dos-xp version...use it people it will keep you MUCH safer than MSmess will (no direct line to ntkern32.dll for a start.) It is also an INFINEITELY less annoying as an ICQ client, than ICQ.

When a geek as foul as me and a chik as hot a melly[1] agree, you KNOW it makes sense.

I've seen it a few years ago. Stupidity. Someone allowed their pc to get infected and then IMed with me and others and some "George Bush" jpeg was offered many a time during the IMing. Of course we refused because we knew better but what if my kid was on the pc and read "wanna download a funny jpeg of Bush?"? It happens. It is a security risk.

But my main issue is that I am trying to do some work and get hit with a shitload of IMs. OR when I am trying to fix my sister's or mother's pc and they get bombarded while I am update their virus defs or spyware crap. Just like the telephone. Need to talk? Send a email or set up TeamSpeak or Ventrillo or Roger Wilco or any voip.

Actually, the best source for virus is stupidity and not being able to update your machine.

I don't use MSN. It's crap, a product of the devil, that should be burn and its ashes thrown in the sea inside a box made of plumb.

I always run the scanner after viewing porn to check for infections and clear history. Sorta like wiping your tango on the curtains.

Definite no no in this house. It caused no end of problems on the last PC.........I have banned the kids also, because it has caused all sorts of problems with school 'friends' with gossipping in its worst form. Email or nothing.

Don't have it installed and haven't for a while but when I get round to it (once I get accepted into uni and can relax a bit) it would be nice to have some NOOLers on my contact list (I think Ally is the only one at the moment)

Yesterday I blocked an attempt to ad me to Messenger... before I realized it must have been one of you! Sorry to whoever it was...

And I managed to boot it up and left it running while I was away from the computer, hence me not replying to anyone who said hello to me!

incidentally BTW....you might want to make sure it does not autoload on boot...it can be a pain if you're offline for anyreason..... and of course...if you're busy, have it switched off, and reboot...everyone starts yakkin at you again.
