I hardly think that Allah deceiving deceivers makes Allah the author of evil...nor is it proof that Allah is not the same as Yahweh or "God." It's pretty clear that the Abrahamic religions-- which includes Islam--- believe in the same deity.

in the coptic christian bibles god is called allah. the only reason mohammed went of and founded his owns religion, is because the jews rejected him as a prophet. before this happened muslims actually prayed in the direction of Jerusalem. So, yes i have done a little research in this field. I am aware that conservative christians do not see the muslim allah, as being the same as their god.

if the christian god created everthing so perfectly, then where did evil come from. this is normally explained with the giving humanity free will, and the subsequent fall of man into sin. yet, god also created the snake.

you need to do your research. a christian who speaks arabic will call god 'allah,' as will a jew who speaks arabic.

i looked at that website you referenced, 'answeringislam.org.' it proclaims to be a dialogue between christians and muslims but is a thinly veiled evangelical christian site. note that in the section 'the character of god in the bible and the qur'an,' which is supposed to be a dialogue between muslims and christians, that only the christian perspective is given because, as the website notes, 'the muslim speaker's notes have not been made available to us.' it refers to christians as 'we' and muslims as 'them.' how can such a website be anything but biased? why would you gather your research from such a blatantly-biased website?

hebrew, especially ancient Hebrew and Arabic are both closely related Semitic languages. hence many words even today are very similar. just an example Arabic salam, Hebrew shalom.

it is the important words in languages that over time change least. as i am not an expert in semitic languages, i will demonstrate this in two languages that i do know, english and german. even though they share a common base, both have developed very differently over time, yet some words are still either the same or very similar. engish - german: god - gott, house - haus, fish - fisch.

Anyway, regardless of all the turmoil, one thing that I think is admirable about Islam is the central role that their faith plays in the lives of Muslims. Obviously, that can be exploited for evil, but it also has the potential for good, and I think submitting to the will of Allah is an admirable way to live one's life.

Ya nuts. Ok. Let's see if we can make sense of this....lets say there is a language called Ooompaloompa. A 'hammer' in Ooompaloompanese is called a "forgulatee". So a german, jew, christian, eskimo, or arab saying 'hammer' in Ooompaloompanese would say "forgulatee" as would an Ooompaloompa. So it's the same fricken word because it's the same fricken language.

Now I will try as amusingly as I can, try to explain the difference between an Arab Christian saying God and a Muslim saying God, once again using the Ooompaloompa example.

So an Ooompaloompa Christian saying "forgulatee" is saying 'hammer' in Ooompaloompanese. As is an Ooompaloompa saying "forgulatee". It's still Ooompaloompanese even though the Oompaloompa Christian may envision "forgulatee" to mean 'Claw Hammer' and the Ooompaloompa may envision "forgulatee" to mean 'Tack Hammer.' They're both hammers. Just different types.

Differences in the theology about who Christ is, but not differences in the God. The Christian "God the Father" is the same as the Muslim "Allah" and the Jewish "Yahweh." Whether Christ is the son of God (the Christian view) or a prophet (the Jewish and Muslim view) doesn't affect who God is.

I am not digging through a thousand threads. I may not know as much about the subject as you but when I hear news reports of women being executed for adultry I question the executions. When I hear about teachers being killed in Afghanistan for teaching girls I question the motives and beliefs of the killers. When I see photos of the Danish embassy in flames because of a political cartoon I question the arsonist and protestors. Feel free to disagree but do not burn my embassy. The last two are former colonies. The first one has never been a colony. USSR tried to get into Afganistan to improve peoples's lives, to bring more literacy, but failed.

I was reading last night about the Beirut protests. First account I actually read about. The vast majority of the marchers were peaceful, but some violent elements peeled off and attacked the Danish and Norwegian embassies, then marched through Christian neighborhoods, attacking a church, etc.

The clerics tried to stop them, but were brushed aside.

My first impression was "What do the Lebanese Christians have to do with the Danish newspaper"?

i guess those topics aren't well quite as topical. i guess i could have a discussion about the reformation, as with so many things it is one that i know more than a little about but by no means am an expert in.
