I don't think so.
When you're at the store, you're just Trevor the milk boy. 
No way on Earth can Trevor the milkboy compete with the local apes for the severely restricted attention span of one of the cashiers. You don't have the muscles, or the muscle car, necessary to compete. No offense to these girls you fall for, but they ain't in uni, which means they ain't got the brains to see beyond the local ape's muscles, or muscle car.
However, the girls at uni are brainy, at least potentially, and [THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART] it doesn't matter to them that you're Trevor the milkboy. To them, you're Trevor who's going places. And at your age, they don't care that you haven't arrived yet, because they're in uni too, and they haven't arrived yet either. They'll cut you some slack on that. In other words, they will look at you for who you are, and what your potential is, and they won't turn their noses up at you for not being low enough on the ladder of evolution.
One more thing in your favor: Some of these girls will have things in common with you. I don't mean things in common like you both breathe oxygen, or you're both carbon-based life forms. No, I mean some of these girls will have similar interests, will have the same major, will be in the same classes as you. An ideal situation for meeting someone.
You will never again have the opportunities to meet girls that you have now.
