Complete load of crap and just an excuse for the florists etc to put up the price of flowers. Why people need to feel obliged to spend money on cards and stuff on one particular day is a load of old shite. If you love someone it probably means more to show them on another day when the advertising industry are not forcing people to expect such things.

It also means that people who don't have partner or have just lost someone close to feel even more upset.

Rant finished. Now calm. Bah humbug

Yes and no.

Yes it's overpriced crap and a scam etc etc etc. But there's nowt wrong with writing her a poem, or just cooking her a nice dinner. And if your partner is the sort who'll strop cos you did that and not spent 7000quid on a couple of red roses...find another partner ;)

My least-favorite holiday ever :nonono:

But I feel more shut out during St. Patty's Day. I'm not Irish! No matter how drunk I get, I'll never be able to truly enjoy the culture of a land that produced W.B. Yeats, Michael Collins, and Conan O'Brien!

Snoop...that IS Upon Tyne I hope?

Tabs mate I walked past a pub in leeds a few years ago, on paddy's day and there was a full cross section of Leeds society (SERIOUSLY multicultural place) dressed in green, drinking green beer and shoutin bajaysus and baggorah.

Don't be takin this as racist.... but the O'patels and the McMohameds are not famillies I'm familiar with ;)

I agree. But i'm single and i dont sit their and sulk about it. I feel more aggrieved that half the office gets half the fookin day off while i have to do twice as much work.

If you love somebody, you dont need to buy them a card, or take them out to a restaurant. What a load of old shit.

I'm banned from buying flowers, we are making each other cards, and having a home-cooked meal at far more realistic prices! It's become a total commercial rip-off these days, and I don't buy into commercial rip-offs.

Surely a good excuse to get pissed and celebrate?

Oh, and has there been a gender change mid Atlantic, Patty? Peppermint Guiness anyone?

I work at the Registry Office and we've got ten bleedin weddings that day - what's the bet most of them don't last five years!! Sorry for the cynicism, but I too think the day is a load of crap.

It's much nicer to get a surprise on any old day - then it's a real surprise.

Valentine's Day is too commercialized -- if you must give your beloved something, don't buy a stupid fucking card -- just bake and frost a cake.

And present the cake to your beloved, with you wearing nothing but scraps of Saran Wrap. oh yeah.... :smoking: it always works!
