my local back street boozer has, say, 90% smokers.
the barmaids sell ciggies, and most of the down and outs smoke golden virgina.
just can't see it working.
The idea behind such laws is to provide a healthier environment for people who work at such places...
And obviously so people who can't stand the damn smoke to have access to those places.
It's true that there are many other pollution sources, but so far they never said CO2 caused cancer compared to Tobacco's secondary smoke.

Amusingly, the biggest whingers complaining about smoking in restaurants and pubs are usually the very cnuts who never go to restaurants and pubs in the first place.
Well, if they can't stand it, it's normal they don't go... if they don't go after the legislation, THEN you're right, but not before ;)
Suspect you need to read up on what's IN a car exhaust.
just about every single thing that's in ciggie smoke.
Again let me state that non smokers have a right to clean air, of course they do. but forcing smokers to die of exposure is a little extreme.
In Quebec, the application of the law has been postponed to May 31st, every bars and restaurants will be non-smoking.
To be honest, even though my clubbing days are over, I seriously wonder how it will be to come back of a bar without a sore throat and smelly clothes... that is indeed a huge change.
As a matter of fact, I do think smokers have the right to do so, even though I can't stand the smoke at all.. (and my wife is a smoker and all my immediate familly are ex-smokers), just like drugs.. want to do some? ok fine, go ahead, but do it at home where it won't cause any harm to anybody else than you.
But to be honest, they let cigar lounges opened, so why don't they do cigarette bars where you have to buy your cigarettes there and you can smoke all you want... ![]()
Just read that this bill is a nationwide ban. Bullshit, should let the individual owners decide.

FWIW...I hate smokey pubs too and I smoke. The real answer here......better air conditioning :D

where i live, in the past year...they now have a full city wide ban of smoking inside buildings in all workplaces, businesses, bars, clubs, and restaurants... and it IS very nice.
but overall it cannot be enforced. independent businesses and bars ignore the ban if the owners like to smoke. most "poorer" demographic bars just have smoking anyways, they just ignore the ban with arrogance
it is good to provide smokefree places but it but it is stupid to have a law that is near impossible to enforce reasonably. just come to a compromise, let the stupider smokers segregate themselves and smoke themselves into bad health if that is what they choose...
