Democracy-- yea or nay?

I've seen that from the American right before-- the rhetoric threatening a resort to guns.

So what I'm wondering is, do NOOLers support the idea of democracy? What would you do if a government were elected that was anathema to your own political beliefs? For example, if you're on the right, if a socialist government were democratically elected, would you take up arms? Or would you grit your teeth, wait for the next election, and respect the democratic process?

If you're on the left, and a fascist government were democratically elected, would you take up arms? Or would you grit your teeth, wait for the next election, and respect the democratic process?

If you're centrist, and either a socialist or a fascist government were democratically elected, would you take up arms? Or would you grit your teeth, wait for the next election, and respect the democratic process?

If you're Norn Irish, you can substitute Catholic or Proddy for socialist or fascist. :D

the only people in this world who are keen to take up guns are the ones who have not been involved in a contact and who haven't seen the aftermath of one firsthand - funny how quickly people can lose their bravado when they're sitting in a foxhole, praying and crying that the next one doesn't fall on their head

democracy may be flawed. democracy may not even be real as such, as the systems we mainly have result in the "dictatorship" of one or more parties, for three or four years. It is still the best system we have.

democracy only works if everybody accepts the rules, and plays by them. by this i mean that the opposition doesn't start a civil war, or the army doesn't putsch, just because they don't like who is in power.

perhaps we should actually analyse this democracy. it seems that power is supposed to come from the people. however, it seems that in just about every democratic country it is a small circle of people who determine the candidates, and the policies.

still the electorate has at least a say in which party represents them, and at which party forms government.

as a citizen in a "democratic" country i accept the outcomes of elections, and do my best to change the government through the processes open to me.

Democracy has a way of correcting itself except for the Weimar Republic. Not that we sit back and grit our teeth as much as we pimp on and slander the ruling party/elected officials.

Now when will my humidor return with my beer?

not sure what NOOL means, but I'll assume I'm one of them. . .I'm a caveman when it comes to internet talk. Of course, I think it is expected, but definately back democracy. . .I would lay my life down so that others can have what I have, thus the reason I joined the military in the first place.

Agree everyone has to play by the rules, or at least trust that the system will weed out those that don't play by them. JHC

seems a very commie sort of election. i don't see any buttons i can choose.

i should add that communism as practiced in the former soviet block etc really has nothing much to do with Marxist theory. according to that communism is actually a very fine form of democracy.

I do support democracy and would support the government that has been elected regardless of whether or not I voted for the. Everybody that is eligible to vote should, but that is not currently the case in UK. Talking of Noolettes, where are some of them? Have they been put off by dates with some of you Noolers. Or have they all gone for dates in Tescos?

However, that only holds true if you are presented with a choice you would vote for.....for instance in the US, there is no choice that's even in the centre, never mind the left..... in NI there's no choice but biggots of varying species, the commies (they get like 3 votes) and some bitter lesbians.
