Possibly there are subtypes of 'Northerner' (e.g. females), but such subtleties are lost on me.

Sorry. I am guessing what your complaint is. Was thinking of the more visible members of this forum. I am vaguely aware you have women up north (Gillian and one of the Spice Girls, right? are there others?). And my supply of stereotypes is sadly limited. Top Northern Lass?? Nora Batty?

Rats! Will you people please stop being non-stereotypical? How can one hope to understand the world without lazy catagorisation?

How would you describe yourself, out of interest? Are you a pro-gun Democrat, by the way? I'm curious how many otherwise sympathetic voters that issue loses the Democrats.

Though I see you are in Austin. I was once told everyone in Texas who isn't a redneck goes and lives in Austin. So now I'm really confused.

Why isn't there an 'other' option?

Describe myself...hmmm...pro-gun democrat...nope...I am of the opinion that guns are no longer necessary amongst the general society...Soldiers need them...the police may need them, but as far as I can see, there is absolutely no reason for the general citizenry to possess firearms...the Second Amendment be damned...it's about as useless as the Eighteenth Amendment...

My political views are so frigging liberal that I doubt the Democratic party would claim me...I think that in a country that is supposedly as civilized as ours, it's a damn shame that we require our children to go to schools that don't give them the education they deserve...that all of our citizens don't have access to high quality health care...that there are people who go hungry...hard to stick me in any particular category...

And as far as the whole Austin thing...I only moved there for a job...and now I'm in College Station...not exactly a liberal hotbed...so who knows what will come next...

and I'm sure this did nothing to answer the question...
