Why the fcuk do people not close their curtains??

Coming home tonight i found myself noticing the amount of households that have their curtains or blinds wide open so you can see into their front living roomsa and see what they're doing

Hmm.. that does make sound like a nosy voyeur ,i realise.But why anyone would want to sit in their front room of a winter's night without privacy of having the curtains closed is beyond me....

I just put up some bamboo blinds in my front room but am gonna take them back to the shop tomorrow because you can see right through them at night if i have the lights on.

I mean what if i wanna... well , yer know

I don't wanna be sat there watching tv or reading a book for all the fcuking world to see.

the horror. bamboo blinds are the nicest. consider sticking up a set of sheers between the windows and the blinds.

you get the light from outside and the privacy you may want. simply putting a desk lamp closest to the window also works because then you're not back lit.

bamboo blinds during day-time is also so nice. as ideas. edit- try that again. white sheers should give enough blurr factor. the lamp- mostly diversion. first thing that someone will likely notice walking on by- three strides then they've passed your place.

a set of sheers? sheer net curtains? i have them already but you can still see straight through.a lamp next to the window? well i like to have the main light on so i can read

I've got shoji screens up in front of my blinds, because you can see through my blinds as well. Blinds + shoji screen = opaque. Let's daylight in, keeps prying eyes out.

Daytime isn't a problem.You can't see in then.But you can at night when i have the main light on.What's the solution whilst still keeping the bamboos?

the white sheers don't give much blur factor.a tiny bit but not much

If sheers are too sheer, then have some opaque curtains (or opaque blinds) between the window and the bamboo blinds.

if you don't mind being behind pull blinds

pull down opaque 'Roman blinds. if you get direct sun in the summer time it'll also keep much of the heat out. reno 101.

except probably solid white. the lamp is really just a diversion and not to be back lit.

newspaper the windows over. pull down 'Roman blinds might do the trick though. great hope that it works.

I'm rather surprized that you, Englishman, are asking this question. I found it typically English to leave windows with the curtains open at nights. I was astonished, when I was in England, to see rows of suburban houses with light coming wide thru their windows. I had never seen such a phenomenon before. So now you have that question and I am even more sure than ever that it is an English habit indeed. ;)

I was in a car at some traffic lights once.A VERY busy traffic lights junction.And right there was a house with it's lights full on with no curtains ,nothing.And there was the family enjoying an evening sitting in the front room in full view of the many cars at the traffic lights.Some people eh?

I've got cafe curtains at my windows. Totally opaque, not nets. I bought them quite soon after I moved in, I was so sick of watching people walk past and peering in. I moved in at Christmas and we had a beautiful tree, it was about 13 foot high. People would shamelessly stop and stare in at it, lifting their kids up for a proper look. So you're sat watching a bit of telly with your dinner, or whatever, and there's five people peering in at you. Used to drive me mad, then I got the curtains and all has been well since then.

From the other point of view, my neighbours have no curtains and it's impossible not to check out what they're up to as you walk past. They normally wave, so they're obviously not bothered. They're Polish, I think, which fucks up barcode's argument.

Went past one house last night ,and this got me asking these qeustions, and happened to have the misfortune of seeing some lad sitting on his sofa with just breifs on ,scratching his balls.No curtains ,bilnds ,nothing.WTF?

The Corby Order went to watch The Complete Stone Roses at Northampton one time,and we where on the bus and Shugzv looked out of the window and seen someone watching a porno video with the curtains wide open..

I guess I'm a hypocrite, since I hate seeing into other people's homes, but I've never closed my curtains for anything.

Its awkward when I walk past a window with the curtains not drawn (whats the word I'm looking for, the opposite of drawn?) and I accidently catch the glance of whoever's inside, making me feel like I'm a dirty weirdo when in fact its their fault for having their curtains... open?
