When I was at Southampton Uni, there was this legendary story (probably bullshit) of a guy arrested for drink cycling, cos he rode into the back of a patrol car, and dented the bumper. It was supposedly Hampshires only drink cycling conviction for 30 years, so the story went.

as far as i know no, otherwise, just about every parent would end up convicted for it.

it is a fine line. parents you have responsibilities to supervise their children, which when totally smashed they obviously can't carry out. so, when planning on a big one, plan ahead, get a nanny, or leave them with a nanny.

there are cases where family services do take children away from "irresponsible" parents. this however usually happens when parents are addicted to drugs.

Sounds like a load of old pants to me. Is this law actually on the statute books?

The answer is yes.

You can be charged with just being drunk and disorderly, so in practice you can be lifted even if you're not in charge of anything. But I am sure that a particular crome is being committed if you are supposed to be looking after a nipper.

I'm sure the cops aren't about to start breaking your door down and sniffing your breath, having tailed you from Mothercare and Thresher and back to your house. I think you'd have to be pretty shiters, or draw your attention to yourself in another way for them to be interested.

I once crashed my sons pram into a kebab van after a particularly long Sunday lunch. Er, I mean my mate did, obviously.
