Bought the DVD yesterday. Am I alone in thinking it's the best damned SF movie in aeons?

Got the 'FIREFLY' DVD on the basis on all the rave reviews and i'm slowly making my way thru' it.

It is FANTASTIC!... even though I hate Westerns... and I wonder if maybe this is why it didn't get the viewing figures... a sci-fi western has to be a first!

Also got SERENITY, which i'm looking forward to taking in once i've finished with FIREFLY.

Yup, that's what the people want.

Anyone else feel that the movie is already been talked up as a cult classic even before it has a chance to develop a cult fiollowing? It already feels that I'm being co-opted into something, which could discolour my viewing of the film when I get my hands on it.

Hmmm. Maybe there's a thesis in here somewhere: "Serenity NOW! Post-modern marketing techniques, cult mythos and multimedia consumption in the DVD age"

No scientific plots here, and thankfully no trek-style technobabble, either! Think of it as a "spaceborne western" with witty, sharp-edged dialogue. The effects are indeed cool and the tits appear to be awesome, though...:D

Although I'm all for the lack of made up techlish that fucktard Berman thinks makes Trek good.

film is for always. this thing is going to get huge(r). a crazy number of references through out it all. sureal Serenity. Forbidden Planet, Pax/ Peace Roman Times, Prospero's daughter from the Tempest..edit- reading more about the set-up think that it's time to go get a DVD player ! just for the terraformed scenery. Ebert and Roeper - modest but superior SF film.

My local WH Smith is selling the firefly boxset for £13.99, HMV pah what a rip off.

i got serenity a few weeks ago, watched it, thought it was ok think its gonna be a few watches before it growes on me.

Serenity now!!!
