How good are you at getting served in a bar or pub?

I don't often get served quickly myself.I just asume they took a dislike to my face or something.I start off with my £10 note rested at bar level .Then as my irritation rises i pull it up a few inches in a keeping with the time the barman or bargirl is taking ignoring me.I eventually have it right up in the air waving it .This only serves to annoy the barman/girl who then takes an even greater dislike to me because of said brandishing of note.And the voicing to the barman of my requirements as he pours someone elses drink seems to ostricate me even further as my temperature rises.

Eventually when they have no one left to serve and every man woman and dog has pushed in and been served before me i eventually get my drinks.

The barman at a hotel i used to work at said he always served people stood near the tills last.

Don't know if this is common practice but it was with him, it was quite funny to watch people getting pissed off as he'd work his way round the bar always missing the till area for serving

If it's packed, then there's no chance for me.

The balaclava is probably not a tremendously good idea in Belfast....people in pubs wearing those tend to leave things behind a lot...grenades, nail bombs, the contents of an Ak47 banana clip, that sort of thing ;)

no problem. you just have to be assertive, get on in there and smile.

I don't have a problem getting served at a bar or pub. It comes with being a girl, I think.

I have a problem deciding which drink to get though...! Too many choices, too little time.

You need to be assertive. I start out with my bank notes held high. If somebody pushes in, i say loudly and firmly "Excuse me but i'm first". If the barmaid/man is a numpty i always say, "Can you serve me next, i've been here ages". They usually give you a dirty look but i couldn't really give a shit. I've worked behind a bar loads of times and can't believe how many people shuffle about behind the bar and don't clock who should be served next.

don't do Q's anymore. just get served straight away. helps to tip too. i.e "get yer own!" 20p in the north. (£2 odd probably in the south) if you tip, they'll remember you the next time you come up the bar, and you'll get served even quicker.

comes from years of dealing with knobs up and down the land at footy away matches, like in Bolton and Sheffield for example.

Really? I would imagine the whole place clears, never mind the bar, when the likes of you turn up, regardless!

So, remember these 3 things:

Eye Contact

Money

Attractiveness

So you need to be, beautiful, rich & have amazing eyes - that should get you served at the bar!

I generally have quite good barcraft. One thing that pisses me off though are other people who are ordering drinks and once the barman has pulled a pint they ask for another drink & so on. Order your drinks at the same time people, its quicker

Always when I approach the bar. The three places I go to know me by name after these last 5 years, and they even know my drink. Getting a drink in a strange city seems to be middling at best. I'm neither first, nor last, but inbetween - an dit suits me fine. In no hurry, ever.

I always tip a nice shiney pound coin per drink (left over from tipping a buck a drink here). Which could be why I got served so quickly at my regular haunts in Manchester since the locals never heard of tipping and if they do it's a lousy 20p ala sir Kershaw above :P
