Was never really a big fan of Prince but I picked up his Hits/B sides (3 cds) in HMV for £9.99. Some quality tracks there :shades:

His version of Nothing Compares to You (which he wrote) is one of my favourite tracks ever. I used to be really into him - done some great stuff. I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man, I Wanna Be Your Lover loads of classics. Amazing live too - I used to get bootlegs from someone in Leicester. I wish I'd managed to see him on the Sign of the Times or Lovesexy tour.

He dissapeared up his bum for a bit, but according to the report in the Obsever last weekend, he's back with a good new album. I hope so. If he tours, I'm in  Perhaps he could support New Order when they play Aberdeen Music Hall.

He always scared me a little... Something very unnatural about that one... So if I win, someone else can have me ticket...

Isn't he still living off his cache of tracks recorded "in his day"? Last I heard, that was his plan, no more recording, just pull out old tapes, and give them whatever production job is currently en vogue.

Anyway, the purple ponce has always creeped me out.

His new single Black Sweat, sounds like Pharell Williams.

Any interview from any era mentions that he's got an enormous room filled with demos that could be released one day. The recent article mentioned some pretty horrendous personal problems and that fight with Warners. That's all sorted and he's back on form now, they reckon. If so - that's a good thing.

He is very creepy though. All that rolling around on the floor and licking womens boots is best ignored. He's a fantastic musician and he's got the funk, you have to forgive the fact that he behaves like an arsehole on stage. He dresses like a bird too.

It doesn't put everyone off, mind. He's buffed some quality girls in his time.

I remember reading a piss-take of one of them crappy Smash Hits style 'Ten things you didn't know about Prince' articals. One of the facts was 'Prince has been growing a moustache for three years, but is keeping it a secret from his fans.

My what a long post. Surely I have something better to do than this? Oh yes, it's lunchtime!

Prince and the Jehovah's Witnesses

Prince has had an interesting career - but many may be unaware of the fact that he has recently converted to the Jehovah's Witnesses. Even fewer are probably aware of the fact that Prince's religious beliefs have begun to filter into his music, including his older music. Rick Ross writes:

Four years ago the funkster converted reportedly to satisfy his mother’s dying wish, but since then Prince has gone so far as to add religious lyrics to his theme song “Purple Rain.” The new line in the song goes, “Say you can’t make up your mind? I think you better close it and open up the Bible.” Close your mind? Isn’t that like being “brainwashed”? Prince may have even recast his old battles with record companies into something religious. “I can tell you who made the System,” he told Newsweek cryptically (April 12, 2004). The “System,” according to Prince apparently includes the music recording business that he says once “enslaved” him. But the word “System” has a darker connotation than slavery amongst Jehovah’s Witnesses. It encompasses everything “worldly” outside of the organization, which includes all world governments, businesses and any other religious organizations. And "who made the System” and essentially controls it today? According to the Witnesses its creator and guiding light is Satan. Evidently, Prince proselytizes door- to-door just like other Witnesses - but unlike other Witnesses, he participates in the "System" in ways that would normally be shunned. When he does proselytize, according to Ross, he goes in a limo with four bodyguards and tailor-made suits. Pity that all Witnesses aren't given the same latitude - but they can't contribute millions to the cause like Prince can. You don't suppose that has anything to do with it, do you?

Well, he's been dressing like him for years. I guess this was inevitable.

That was brilliant.

'Every room is wired for sound. So if Prince wants to record Raspberry Beret on the shitter, he can do that.'

The Kevin Smith thing had me laughing my ass off. I'm a huge Prince fan. Over the years I've collected all his releases, as well as albums & singles containing songs he wrote or produced for other artists. Saw him live four times, too.
