Very Good, but overrated somewhat. Cracking live band though!

Little bastards! I prefer elves and sprites...

They were f*ckin brilliant at Move a few years back.

Done some absolute stonkers, and a load of rubbish too.

"Where is my mind" on the closing scene of Fight Club was quality :thumb:

Although I probably prefer Frank Black's 'Teenager of the Year' to any Pixies album.

Surfer Rosa's my favourite album

if you don't like it, you can always w**k over it.

mmmm, Surfa Rosa vs Doolittle?

yeh, your right, in a toss-up Surfa Rosa would win :evil4:

A bit like New Order really. Some great tracks, but some real duffers as well. Always refused to play ball with the media as well, had internal wranglings, then realised they loved what they did so got back together.

Doolittle is a solid album, Surfer Rosa is alright as well. Got a poster of the album cover of Surfer Rosa after seeing them at Ally Pally. T'was an ok gig but they don't like talking to the audience much. :brow:

Some cracking songs, though I prefer Nirvana

Great. I can be the first anal twat to say it's not 'The Pixies', it's just Pixies! The title of this thread suggests otherwise.

See also: Doves, Editors, etc.

Pixies really know how to raaaack out. Likes of Tame and Debaser are classics.

Was it the same Move Festival as New Order and the Bunnymen? In which case i saw them. In which case I must have been wrecked cos i can't remember.

Dont think so

Stereophonics were headlining. Everyone f*cked off after the Pixies (small 't' in 'the' Al & Liam :evil4: )

Unless the Bunnymen were on earlier.

What am I on about, nah defo not the same one as New Order, were the Bunnymen playing earlier that say then? I'm confused now.

Yeah, New Order were headlining, the Doves were on and Shaun Ryder's then band were supposed to be on but surprisingly Shaun Ryder got f*cked and couldn't do it so the Bunnymen stepped in at the last minute - i was buzzing about that!

I'd just tell Sam to tell Derek to tip a pint over you.

Derek does everything Sam tells him

But the living cant get to Sam, he's untouchable :p

Should have added earlier, when I was trying to be funny, that they do, as Jack says, indeed rule... And Surfer Rosa is the place to start... Where Is My Mind?

Debaser Wave of Mutilation Gigantic Monkey Gone to Heaven Here Comes Your Man Where is My Mind Velouria La la Love You Bam Thwok

Only New Order can touch the quality of these tunes.

Also their immediate 'rock family tree' is worth looking into. Top stuff :thumb:

I was still too engrossed with their label mates and greatest ever 4AD band ,Cocteau Twins, around the time Pixies emerged so didn't really give them any time. But that song on Fight Club is tops.Monkey Gone To Heaven was probably the only other song i of theirs i was aware of back in 89.

Funny, i was talking about Kim Deal with a guy i work with today.he met her backstage at a Brixton Academy gig once but

Ron, definitely pick up Surfer Rosa. You should also look into The Breeders (the singer, Kim Deal, is the Pixies bassist). Pod is my favorite album.

Yeah the Tanya connection. Throwing Muses are also fantastic. Kristin writes great lyrics. Her new band, 50 foot wave, has a new "FREE MUSIC" EP you can download here. They’re different from Throwing Muses, but still good.

Great, let me know what you think. :thumb: I think it’s a great way for them to get their music out to new listeners.

i like the pixes but always thought they were a bit overrated. Doolittle is great and the rest is good. They do an excellant cover of "head on" by JMC

Fits in with the whole Pixies/Muses/Breeders/Belly stuff...

Tanya still tops for me though

monkey is one of my least favourites of theirs.

they used to be excellent live, saw them supporting throwing muses, byt the end of that tour pixies were headlining it! saw them several more times & each time was different - the doolittle tour was probably the best, though liked the way they'd altered the songs when touring bossanova. then when they reformed those gigs at brixton were amazing, ;last year at the ally pally they seemed to be going through the numbers til thye reached tame & then it kicked in.

was working with a couple of guys that thought Pixies were close to genius. that they can hit brilliance isn't to be questioned. that they're cameo-ing into films and shows that they say they don't care about is a hoot.:salvation: but great to catch & hear.

See also Eels. Pixies: the only 4AD band not Afraid To Rock. A top band, but nonetheless a trifle over-rated. Lacked variety in my humble opinion.

my best list would be; monkeys gone to heaven velouria gouge away debaser dig for fire gigantic
