Maya's post got me thinking about them.

What's your opinion on them?

Here's mine: :barf:

They wouldn't be on my list of least favourite bands at all - I quite like them. Good live (only seen them on telly), some decent guitar work, not bad tunes.

I prefered Mercury's solo work though - the Great Pretender was good, as was Barcelona.

So I'm not joining in with the Queen Haters.

EDIT: Can't think of much wrong with the Bee Gees either. Certainly no worse than any other disco pop band. Bit past it now, but done some good stuff in their day?

Showing my Age here, I saw em at Birmingham in 79. They were good. Freddie Mercury was a charismatic front man, and he didn't need an auto cue :D

Freddie Mercury was fabulous! My brother had a real mad phase on Queen in the late 70's; day at the races, night at the opera - 'You take my breath away' - was an absolutely brilliant song.

Queen were great. Not got a lot by 'em,the greatest hits 1 & 2,A Kind Of Magic album, and a live album. But I always had a lot of time for them.Freddie is still missed.

Anyone got any of the Brian May solo albums - now they are bad, so hilariously bad, that they're actually quite good - and the liner notes are just mind blowing...

Never got into them although I like a few of their songs.

Their bassist, incidentally, lives in my hometown, Putney.

Queen had a sense of humour... they took the self important macho cliche of rock and totally fucked with it intentionally... they were bullshit and knew it and played that act to the hilt and they still rocked

i don't have any Queen records but you gotta admit that Queen was a unique band and they are loads better than many of the 70s classic rock shit they play on the radio (still... seriously, they still play REO Speedwagon and Styx all the time on the radio here!)

Can't you plug your ears by filling them with hot lead?

I'm not as hardline against Queen as a lot of you seem to be. Sure, they were overdramatic and camp, but they managed to overcome this with a few good tunes on seperate occasions. I would never want to sit through an entire album of theirs, but they did put out some good tunes in their day.

They did give a whole new meaning to the term "lad band", eh? :evil4:
