Only heard Rust Never Sleeps (think that's what it's called)

yeah he's mint i love his music

does all the rockin stuff which is class then he does well nice chilled songs as well

he is a proper legend, i've got looooaaads of his stuff cos i just think he's really quality.

In The Last Waltz you can see Neil Young put on the display of twattedness I've ever seen. God knows what he'd been taking, but he is really impressively high. Doesn't look too bad at the start of the encore (an 'everyone on the stage' version of I Shall Be Released, I think) but something kicks in about halfway through the first verse. You can see him get higher and higher as the song progresses but he holds on to it, even nailing a bit of a solo and some singing. He's looking around at the other people on the stage and killing himself laughing. People like Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan are looking back as if to say "fuck, man - we all like to get high but that's too far, baby."

It really is one of the best peices of music video out there.

I've got a best of, but I have only really listened to Rockin' In The Free World and After The Gold Rush.

He's great. Seen him 3 times live, once solo and twice with Crazy Horse (one of those times playing the whole Greendale album with actors and sets and everything). I don't care much for his more folksy/country-ish sounding stuff, but his rock songs are class. My dad's favorite band, so we have many dozens of his albums lying around. His new one Prairie Wind is pretty good, even if it's a quiet one.

Jack, you need to hear his album Trans if you haven't already (or see his Live in Berlin dvd from that tour). Neil experiments with vocoders and synths and other things that sound vaguely Kraftwerkish. A bizarre album, but New Order fans should like it.

Cheers Pope, but yeah I know Trans, good stuff. My dad's into him so I got quite a few cds, plus his mate who has like EVERYTHING by neil has leant me all his stuff cos he was so chuffed I liked it. so

Check out the film "Year of the Horse" by Jim Jarmusch. It's a documentary Of Young and Crazy Horses 1996 concert tour.

Love, love, love him. Some are better than others, but they're always interesting. Saw him with Sonic Youth opening, fifth row center stage, damn brilliant (and louder than the Youth).

Fave songs that are always playing in my head include Powderfinger, Barstool Blues, After The Gold Rush, and Tonight's The Night.

Nobody mentioned "Mirror Ball" yet from 1995, I'm the Ocean and Throw Your Hatred Down are top notch.

Got Prairie Wind on Sat which is his latest but he"s taken a trip down a country road with that one...f"ing expensive too here, eighteen quid!

I'm the ocean is one of my fave songs, can't get enough of it. Neil + PJ = MINT.

Bought Harvest on cassette from Woolworths when i was about 13 or 14 in the early 80's. Some great songs on there - Harvest, Heart Of Gold, Old Man and A Man Needs A Maid were particular favourites. Other faves include - Only Love Can Break Your Heart, Like A Hurricane, Keep On Rocking In The Free World, After The Goldrush and Helpless, especially the Last Waltz version. A fantastic songwriter and undoubtedly a legend in his own right.

I taught myself to play guitar with his songbooks, so everything I play comes out sounding like Neil.

Used to love him, but cooled when he came out and said he supported Reagan an' all. Still, saw him loads of times, have everything up to Trans.

Was at the Cow Palace for Rust Never Sleeps; first time I ever heard Hey Hey, My My was at that concert. I still remember the intro, it was that powerful. I can't say that about any other concert I've ever been to. They handed out these glasses, like the old 3D glasses they used to hand out in movie theaters. I remember turning around at one point in the concert and the ENTIRE audience was wearing these glasses.

Also saw him on the Trans tour; just Neil, some computers, a drum machine, a vocoder, and his guitar. It was possibly the most amazing display of musicianship I've ever seen.

Most intimate show was an unadvertised warmup gig at a small venue in Santa Cruz, his "hometown crowd." ACE. I mean mint.

Can't really stand Cortez the Killer or Like a Hurricane. Just slow, boring songs that too-stoned-to-stand hippies think rock out. Way over-rated compared to his other material.

There was a Neil Young cover album out in the early 90's called "The Bridge" which featured cover versions by Pixies (Winterlong), Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, Loop, and Nick Cave, amongst others - think it was either this or the Saint Etienne cover of "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" that got me into Neil Young - shame I haven't (yet) managed to see him live (always seem to be on holiday when he tours... :\ohwell: )

Neil is God.

Have Harvest which is excellent, must get a few more of his albums at some point. I'm more of a Ryan Adams fan though
