I was trying to be clever.. ![]()
maybe Kenny's dad can finally get a job by taking Chef's place as school cook... he could cook really badly and offer really stupid advice, just like most school cooks
I think Trey had gotten bored with Chef anyway or maybe Isacc Hayes no longer was willing to sing songs, since Chef had such a low profile in the last couple of years... i dunno
What a hypocrite - he was happy to be part of South Park when all other religions were being ridiculed, but when his precious Scientology was touched he's suddenly grown a conscience - up yours sir and good riddance.
We never got to see the Scientology episode over here in the UK.
It was shelved.
Our libel laws are just a teeny bit stricter than in the US and Tom Cruise has been known to call his lawyers at a drop of a hat in the past, so they never even chanced it here.
They're a scary bunch those Scientologists. When i was younger i was in Munich and my friend and i were dragged (almost literally) into a building for '2 minutes' with the promise of a decent gift (can't remember what). We were then taken to different rooms and interrogated (and no, i don't mean interviewed).
After five minutes i was feeling very uncomfortable and demanded to know where my friend was, after they realised i was about to become a handful, they showed me to the room she was in. She was trying to leave at the same time. As we tried to leave they became abusive and i ended up telling them to back off or i'd call the police - it was really that bad.
I normally would ignore people who come up to me on the street but these people were so friendly and we weren't up to anything much at the time, just wandering round.
At the time, John Travolta and his wife were the main famous Scientologists.
i have lost total respect for issac hayes SP makes fun of everything how can he quit over this? why did he never quit when they made jokes about African Americans?

Your not wrong. He knew nothing's sacred on that show.

when i lived in london my friend and i were walking up the tottenham court road after a night out when she decided (very drunkenly) to go into the scientology store and taunt those inside. she was in there a good 20 minutes--i went to nearby mr. c's, got a kebab, and sat outside as she ripped into them. being a philosophy major i'm sure she did quite well as they had to ask her to leave (not because she was being belligerent, but because she was asking them too many questions!).
Good for her, i'll take her with me next time!! It's like a friend of mine who had two Jehovah's Witness' on his doorstop for an hour and a half while he finished his can of cider. They never came back funnily enough!!
Al Jarvis post reminded me: All the south parks, ever, are avialable to download here:
If the link is disallowed, copy and paste the following URL in:

912: Series 9, Episode 12 - "Trapped in the closed" - is the Scientology episode.
Its a fucking AVI, so if you cant play it, download this player to do so (assuming you are on windows).
Free VLC player, seconds on Broadband, probably not much longer on 56k
I cant remember where I got that MRTWIG link, it may have even been here, but it is golden. The Scientology episode is great too - espically the "This is what scientologists actually believe" bit. Its a pity Isaac is one, makes you wonder about all those dodgy Chicago House records.
isaac can believe in whatever he wants for all i care, but he should have known trey and matt would've gotten to scientology eventually. i mean, christ, it's south park!
I did some reading on scientology awhile back, it really is scary. It just show how much money its backers have that it's called a 'religion' at all, and not a cult. I agree it's pretty suspect that Hayes developed a conscience as soon as they made fun of scientology.
In related news, I read that Katie Holmes' birthing partner is going to be Victoria Beckham. Poor kid, in its first minutes of life it'll be exposed to Holmes, Cruise, and Posh. Talk about trauma! ![]()
Don't think Matt & Trey wouldn't have "gone after" scientology if Tom hadn't flipped out on Oprah about his "love" for K.H. (or lecturing Matt Lauer (I think) about the history of psychology on TV). I'd chalk that episode down to the pomposity-puncturing we've come to expect.
Given how much attention South Park got in the first place by having Isaac Hayes in the cast, I'm kinda thinking that M&T won't do a whole episode about this, it'll probably be just a joke when the boys meet the new school cook, maybe a running joke over several episodes.
Anyway, he hasn't featured much in recent episodes, so it won't be as huge a loss as it would've been four or five years ago.
Ah well........good luck in life anyway Isaac.
all the great jazz/fusion artists of the 70s and 80s were scientologists. Herbie Hancock, Stanley Clarke, John McLaughlin, you name it...
i saw that closet episode a couple of weeks back. as far as i could make out they actually portrayed scientology in a truthful way. they made a point of stating after each statement, "this is what scientologists actually believe." of course it doesn't help that scientology is just way out there. they only really took the piss out of cruise and travolta.
Not even gay (mr/ms garrison, mr slave, big gay al, etc) people or muslims (they had an episode featuring the prophet mohammed a few years back) get mad at southpark. They make fun of everybody. Disappointing that Issac Hayes of all people can dish it out for a decade but can't take it for one half hour.
It's not like Trey Parker and Matt Stone don't make fun of themselves, anybody who attatched their name to Baseketball or Orgasmo clearly thinks very little of themselves lol

That sounded like a close shave Jemma. I must be lucky. That last time I got stopped by someone,I was escorted to an upstairs bar and asked to sample two different pints of lager..which I got to drink both! Naturally I asked if I could have a second opinion.

their first production was a musical (cannibal: the musical) about our home state's most famous cannibal, alferd packer of lake county, current population: approximately 800. he helped lead a group of men from utah to colorado in the 1800s and when they got lost in a snowstorm...well, you can guess the rest. at his trial the judge said to packer 'there were only seven democrats in the whole county and you ate three of them!' he avoided the death penalty, lucky him, and the university of colorado students have lovingly nicknamed their dining hall alferd packer hall.
the film was going to originally be called alferd packer: the musical, but the folks at troma films thought no-one outside colorado would know who packer was so they made trey and matt change the name of the film. the music played over the braniff ad at the end of each south park episode is from a 'cannibal: the musical' song.
