Hmmm...
Well they are a bit young, not good at doing interviews, refuse to do music award show performances (cos they get too nervous), and have turned down the headline slot at Reading, because they 'aren't ready'.
To be fair, all this hype has been sprung on them rather quickly, and the album isn't as good as the hype. Having said that, 'I Bet That You Look Good on the Dancefloor' was a fantastic debut single, and should dent the charts anywhere. The follow up wasnt bad either.
Give 'em a chance, I say. They are getting mass hysteria far too early, by their own acknowledgement, and they are hardly deliberately courting it.
Now, I haven't heard of the band's record, but my college newspaper gave them 4 stars! It looks like some Americans don't understand good British music.

I'd expect the college circuit to be praising it heavily, and I'd expect the US to be wary of the hype. Be nice if everyone calmed down a bit so we could find out how good they really are.

I saw them on SNL a few weeks back, I remember thinking they were "interesting" at the least in what they're doing. Plus, their second song began with a really long instrumental part, which I thought was particularly ballsy (even if the actual song itself wasn't that good). I might pick the album up anyways, I've had a good run of "blind" or "slightly familiar" buys lately

I think the beauty of it all has been how they got to No 1 on the internet, just through airplay. No one had a clue what they looked like, and if you look at them now, I think fashion is certainly not applicable. I'm not sure about scarves or horn rim glasses either, Hannett. Whatever floats your boat.

Nowhere near as good as the hype, not a fan myself.
They're brilliant, hyped or not.
If the US don't 'get' them, good. Fair play to the band for not pandering to their audiences.

Fair play to them, most wouldnt recognise or care if they were over-hyped. But, in fairness, they arent that good in my opinion.
