After spending all afternoon working on a presentation I've just saved a file and then realised that two versions of the same file had been open and all my work was lost. Is there any tool on control panel that will recover previously saved versions?

only thing that comes to mind is using a disk cleanup smart arse program to look for temp files, you may find it that way (or by manually trawling through your temp folder)

Cheers Steve, Doing it a second time is quicker than the first but a ball-ache nevertheless.

if with --hang on 'til- it's- fossilized Windows. maybe try- Start (r-click), All Programs, PC security & back-up/ online back-up.

-All Programs- Accessories- has a few Notepad, Word Pad options.

or at Start (r-click) have gone through My Documents and found all sorts of things not realised. weeks old and often saved, somehow to the strangest places.

JT - sorry to hear this, hope you got it sorted. I bet your presentation is to colleagues about New Order gig experiences - that should get you a rise!
