Can anyone recommend a good quality emulsion paint, where you only have to do one coat, even it you are painting over another colour?? Not a drastic colour change though

I had a man in at Xmas. Ooh, er, Mrs. Never do sh1te like this meself mowadays. Got a bloke who only charges a tenner an hour - cash in hand - so can't go wrong really. His work is soooperb too.
However, I doubt there's ANYTHING on the market which you can do properly with one coat. I had my entire hallway changed from a rather pale cornfield yellow to a more intimidating blood red, and even that needed two coats. You should aways do two coats. Can't see how you could ever get away with just one. It would look too wishy-washing otherwise.
I would be going from white to biscuity, but I bet you are right about one coat Al. I was trying to make it easy.
You're sensible to get a man in, maybe an option.
When I lived with me mam, she got the whole house decorated. There were five blokes, lovely people, in from the crack of dawn six days a week for two weeks running. Did the whole house. Lovely job. Apart from my room, who muggins here had to do himself.

So long as you dont mind telly, stereo, carpet, boyfriend all the same colour too. :\ohwell:

I had a woman in to do mine!! Went to London for a couple of days, gave her the key, she did the entire lounge and dining room - stripped all the walls, repapered, painted the lot for £300; got back from London and it was all done. That is the ONLY way to decorate. (Oh and she fed the cat and the rabbits too!)
Mrs Boatraceface,whose a real decorating enthusiast,just said "Dulux Once" is your best bet,£18 a tin.She's painting a coat of white emulsion in our hallway before she puts the cream gloss on over the top..so I'm not too sure how much she believes in Dulux once.Tho it could be she is just painting it twice because she genuinly loves to decorate.It costs me a mint keeping up with all her chopping and changing,tho labour is free and she's happy I suppose..mental if you ask me
I must admit i do all my own decorating, well painting (I can't hang paper for toffee - although i'd do it for beer). I usually end up wearing more paint than the walls but i do enjoy it.
Ness, always best to do two coats, use a cheap emulsion for first then a decent one for second. I've tried 'One Coat' loads of times and it still needs two.
Mrs BRF gets covered in paint an all,she'd look like poccohontis if she put a little feather in her barnet..
I have some good tips for varnishing floors.
- Wear clothes.
- Close the curtains.
- Sweep & Clean the floor beforehand.
- Lock up pets in another room.
- Do it sober.
Otherwise you will varnish in the dog hairs present, slip on the went varnish and cover your arse, legs & back in varnish, in full view of your neighbours, and your dog will trot off and varish the carpets for you aswell. You will then wake up in the morning with a varnished floor and for a second wonder how.

Al, e-mail your blokes details please, I may consider it. I suppose I may get some satisfaction from doing it myself.

Sorted.As AL has said i don't think ANYTHING coats in ONE go but i have been using TRADE PAINT from WICKES at 15 LITRE a time due to the ENTIRE house having to be done.Cost less than £18 as opposed to £15 for 2.5 LITRE of normal GOOD PAINTS.Needs a couple of coats.But it is MINTY MINT.Don't SPLASH your collection and PAINT in the NUDE.Saves having to wash your clothes.Mind you i have been reported by the neighbours for EXPOSURE.But that was before my DIY!
They will be having a LEAVING party.
Bet i will leave on a JET PLANE-don't know when i'll be back AGAIN.

decorated my house about 4 years back and it almost drove me insane.Never again
