I just got it on dvd. in light of seeing the new series. it kicks ass. lots of action. thoroughly recommended.

Metal Mickey UK, ITV (LWT), Children's sitcom, Colour, 1980 Starring: Irene Handl, Michael Stainton, Georgina Melville Mirth with a walking, talking mechanical man named Metal Mickey, a five-feet-tall rotund robot with red eyes, blue ears and a dazzling display of multi-coloured lights and buttons on his chest control-panel. Mickey is the invention of Ken Wilberforce, a precocious science boffin who has assembled the automaton to assist with the household chores. But not everything deep down inside the metallic man is functioning as well as it ought and he just won't do what's expected of him. Mickey means well, but wreaks havoc and soon shows alarming tendencies towards summoning aliens, transporting people back in time and, worst of all, pop music. (He trundles around saying 'boogie boogie' half the day.) The extended Wilberforce family - four children, parents and dear old Granny - are the victims of Mickey's antics.
Metal Mickey first appeared on television in the ITV children's magazine show The Saturday Banana, and was then produced in his own series by a famous namesake from the past: Michael (Micky) Dolenz, the actor who had become a member of The Monkees and was now turning his hand to work behind the camera. The star of the series, though, apart from the android, was undoubtedly the great Irene Handl, as Granny, although her appearances became sporadic towards the end.

Old series was awful, but at least it wasn't just Battlestar Iraq like the new one.
Hugely evolved humans on the other side of the Galaxy, who have super-light drives and inertial suppression systems....drive round in hummers??????? LOL I've watched a few, and if you cut the space sequences out, it's not a sci-fi show at all....and how TEDIOUS is the whole "dude who can see Cylons" thing.....actually never mind that....oh, our technology is SO much better thann wwhee made the old series that we can't do cylons that look like cylons anymore. Morons.

Total dross. Amazing FX... recicled over and over again! Lorne Greene on auto-pilot... Stupid kid with vomit-inducing "cute" robot pet... vilains who looked -and acted!- more ridiculous than yer average stormtrooper... plots as thin as Jessica Simpson's "brain"...
I could go on and on... shame I never got hold of one of those jackets, though!
i watched it when i was a VERY little kid, when it was first on. i mostly remember the feathered hair and face from the A-team being on it.
I watched it when it was new. Have not seen the new one. Never did understand how robots could be such poor fighter pilots. Did enjoy the episode where the bad guys had this huge laser cannon and were blasting the shit out of the human refugee convoy.

I believe you are thinking of Twiki in Buck Rogers in the 25th century. Could never figure out why they made his head that shape and no-one drew a slot down the top.

I've always had a soft spot for the original series but you gotta admit, the new series is slick, still, they've had a chance to get it right this time by 'reimagining' it.
As for Galactica 1980, try and get hold of a copy, it is pretty dire but in a 'so bad it's good' kinda way (if you know what i mean!)
The last episode 'The Return of Starbuck' was probably the best.
Still, i love all them cheesy old sci-fi shows like Planet of the Apes etc. 
I remember being very Dissapointed at Galactica 1980, and i agree about the Return of Starbuck Episode being the best. it was one of my favorite shows when i was a kid.
I did enjoy B.G. the original -- but I think I enjoyed V better. Much better series all around.

i hardly ever spend time in the living room anymore, so i got myself a second (atually it is a third tv) and a second dvd player. so i can nool and watch tv and dvds at the same time.

Well, you don't need PIP, it's just a feature for helping me out.
I have my satellite dish hooked up to my computer, and the DVD player on my computer helps as well.
All in all, a very good setup. Now, I just need a double monitor, preferably another widescreen LCD, and I'll be set.

oh do that-the new BSG is so well written-the Colonies being so wiped out is soooo 9/11. Reall there has been a lot of character development. Very well rounded people and you can understand their motivations. Great acting also....
somehow my favorite character is Starbuck. Total risk doing a switch and making Starbuck a woman...but Katie Sackghoff is tough and really brings an edge. She is one tough woman! not a weak lily!
