azureus: the devil's spawn?

does anyone else have major problems with azureus? i used it five times and my computer crashed each time. i even uninstalled it and reinstalled it three times to see if that would help, to no avail. it also twatted with my MSN messenger. azureus is gone for good now, the bastard.

Yeah I tend to aggree to problem must be your underlying Java, or something simmilar.I've run it in windows a bitand in linux all day every day, it runs wen the machine boots and stays there for as many weeks as it's booted.

Possibly it's getting carried away and crippling your networking? Also....word to the wise, I don't know if the windows one wrks the same, but if you set a limit on download speed, it ignores you, or rather......it accepts data at the speed you set, but keeps downloading like blazes into a buffer file....try it yourselves...get a good fast torrent ripping along and set the limiter to like 5k for 10 mins, then set it to unlimited....if you've been buffering the download speed will shoot up to WAY beyond yout connection speed...like megs and megs.

I've tried a few torrent lients and spent a lot of time reading up and azureus does appear to be the dog's nuts. So, something is conspiring to do this to you Woodsy.

Don't forget to enable the peer blocking thingy!!

Azureus runs best when you have the latest Sun Java package on your system, have you tried installing that first Christy?

i didn't install the sun java package. but i'm weary of installing anything having to do with the program considering what happened before. :(

it needs java to run.... and sun microsystems are a BIG company and Jaa is not a dodgy thing (fat and slow yes).

It must be using some horrid MS java replacement, you're lucky it hasn;t set fire to your house ;)

it's called "safepeer" it's either already in the toos menu or can be grabbed from the installation wizard in there. It keeps an up to date list of known RIAA and other such gits and won't let them connect to you.

not too important unless you are downloading something new "big".

I use BitTornado.

Works fine for me.

i've managed to successfully download azureus with java (thanks to the techies on this site) and have had no more crashes. now if i could only find a seed or a peer for 'don't look now' with donald sutherland and julie christie. it's on pirate bay and i've always wanted to see it, but no luck downloading it. :(

It was given away, recently, in a UK newspaper. I have it somewhere. Will get back to you when I find it :)

try demonoid.com if no joy there. download torrent harvester, a nsty wee bugger but sometimes it comes through( it searches a LOAD of different trackers)
