in german when not using the terms Sekt or Schaumwein, it is Champagner (pronounced Shampanyer). the ruskies probably got their word through german.

Actually, I think The Continental is using the French pronunciation. No telling what nationality The Continental is, really. He's just...Continental.

if it came through the french it would be more like the english pronounciation, something like Shampan. just my thoughts.
