I'm talking about the progressive rock trio, of course. Although obviously Rush and JD/NO don't exactly sound alike, Rush did a lot of electronic "new wave" experimentation in the 80s and I think Neil Peart may have been influenced by Steven Morris's use of tribal rhythms, as he adapted that same drum style for a lot of Rush songs in the 80s (me thinks "Mystic Rhythms" for one). Anyways, just curious.

Heard the guy has a masters in philosophy, and his lyrics are suppose to be real deep. Can't get into though, vocals are too high pitched and there is a lack of bass.

rush has been one of my favorites since i was a kid, i dont see the JD connection though

neal peart is a great drummer and was the hero of a mate of mine who was a very talented drummer and was sadly killed in a car accident at 16. still, that geddy guy is one of the ugliest men i've ever seen and their music is pants.
They are my number one guilty pleasure... Of all the dodgy rock I have ever flirted with they are the only band who I can still listen to today without it being for comedy/nostalgic value... Sure they can be a bit overblown and OTT, but for all the late 70s excess those earlier albums still hold some great songs and great playing. The early/mid 80s albums have some first rate rock/pop songs on, as well, and I have found recently that I am listening more to the likes of Signals, Permanent Waves, Hold Your Fire than the earlier stuff... Would still like to see them live...

I find Rush chocolate milk to be too rich. I prefer Breakas because there is too muchy chocolate in Rush.

They are incredible live, except the 10 minute drum solo, that's a bit pretentious. Otherwise, definitely worth checking out when they play live. One also must admit, Rush does write a LOT of catchy song.

Is Can You Forgive Her? really that obscure though? It was a single, after all. :) Nice allusion.
I luurve all those Rush albums in the 80s where Geddy Lee's synth became the focal point, and overpowered everything else (and thus, you couldn't hear the crap guitar solos).

Destroy : all 20 other albums.

One of my faves... In fact Signals is probably my favourite Rush album... Really getting into Grace Under Pressure recently as well, as with Hold Your Fire... The last few albums have had their moments, as well... Wouldn't say destroy the rest, but I've certainly come to appreciate their 80s output more than the 70s over the last couple of years...

Never heard much outside classic rock stations, saw a clip of them doing "Red Sector Alpha" or something on VH1 Classic, the lead singer is weird, but I like how it was synth-centered and had some good guitar/drum work. Prob not enough to get into them mind.
