Swimming with DOLPHINS

Anyone done this recently?I am looking for somewhere really SPECIAL to take a close FRIEND(now stop that immediately MIKE) where i can enjoy the pleasures of these wonderful creatures but in the WILD.Been on a few internet sites and had a look around.Around £2k is the asking price to some but that is flying from LONDON and i want to go from MANCHESTER.Just wondered if any of you lot have had such an holiday.Serious answers PLEASE.If you wanna slag me off i'll meet you behing the SHED! Never been swimming with them,but fed and touched them in Florida.Their texture was suprisingly foamy at touch..I came away slightly saddened tho as the dolphins clearly did not want to be there,they only approached for the fish and were very subdued..I would like to swim in the open sea with them, so you can treat me Mick, when your ready!

I managed to get over to WA a couple of times in the early 90's and did this on my first visit. There is now some concern that by us doing it now though that the dolphins may become too complacent around humans or succumb to human diseases. Shame that...still great though.

Yes i have read about this.that is why even a LONG distance and with TRAINED biologists would be my prefered experience.I need to give this a great deal of thought!

There are a number of places in Hawaii that set up Dolphin encounters of sorts. Have you considered visiting/ purchasing a time-share on one of the Islands so that you may visit specific areas more than once. The cost is considerably less if can see visiting again. . Mostly just swimming with tropical fish in the 'open salt-water i.e. Hanama (sp. Oahu)Bays where Dolphins may be viewed can be very rewarding and relaxing.

Less risk to the Dolphins, you still get the vacation w/ the family, the tan w/ out possibly risking the Dolphins.

We looked at Dolphins whilst on holiday in Play Del Carmen,Mexico in 2000.Didnt swim with em though as it was a ridiculous price

We went swimming with them at a reserve in Mexico in 2000; I forget the exact name of the place but it was somewhere near Acapulco. They were enjoying all the attention and if one of them saw you on your own, it would swim over to you.

Would love to do this but have eco concerns like others here. Marsa Alam is supposed to be good - a pod of wild dolphins numbering up to a hundred hangs out there. It's in the Red Sea, southern Egypt, near the Sudanese border. There must be some good ecologically aware companies that go there.

There were Dolphins in Nuweiba ,Sinai ,Egypt when we were there .A few years back now ,mind ,1995.They may still be there, swimming offshore.

Is the Sinai safe now though after last weeks bombings in Dahab? you just got to take a chance i guess :\ohwell:

they do that on any basic mexico holiday.but its dodgy because the dolphins looked pissed off at the end of a long day

yeah ive done this,at discovery cove in florida not cheap but worth it as you get free food n drink all day as well,the dolphins felt like a hard boiled egg with no shell on,which was weird but they was happy enough to drag us around the lagoon ect plus they have a tropical fish lagoon there as well which is fantastic. as for swimming with WILD dolphins i would not recomend this,studies have shown that with many marine creatures,manta rays-sharks-dolphins-whales ect,the more they interact with humans in the wild the less afraid and more dependant they become,ie "lets go and hunt some fish dad" "nah fuck that lets wait till the humans show up with bags of it for free". sting rays and mantas are especially prone to this but ill not start preaching. if your gonna swim with em do it in a safe enviroment with trainers on hand just in case flipper decides to erm flip?

I swam with whale sharks (huge 18 foot long fish - vegetarian ones!) earlier this year off the coast of Djibouti (NE Africa). It was a fantastic experience but with hindsight I do wonder whether this kind of thing is causing damage. We weren't feeding them and they seemed OK to be around humans but I worry this kind of thing might be affecting their behaviour adversely in the long term.

Certainly a better bet for getting a tripple somersault with twist out of me than holding a fish out.

Did this whilst on holiday in the Florida Keys at Research Center, Key Largo.

Got swim, play with them, feed them in controlled environment. Just 2 of us and 2 dolphins in large deep pool.

Good fun, a bit unnerving but they were very gentle.

However, expensive hour but very memorable and one of those things I have been lucky enough to do.

I think you can swim with them in the wild but you are not allowed to feed them or touch them by conservation law.... from what I remember.
