You are correct. I think though, that it's a rare thing to find and McClaren isn't the person who could do it.

Nothing personally against him or Boro, but they are sure both very dull.Same as Charlton and West Brom, I cant stand watching them.
He's not acheived anything in major trophies and I dont count the milk/rumbelows coke cup or whatever its called now.

I'd have prefered either of these myself too.
Thing is, they've gone for the man who offends people the least, haven't they? People can get quite emotive about Big Sam or O'Neill. Who really gives a sh!te about McLaren?! It's difficult to be opinionated about him.
I’m a bit sceptical about how difficult the job really is. I mean, we’ve got one of the best group of players we’ve had for ages but still the first 11 picks itself. We are blessed with a group of 12/13 world class players but beyond that there isn’t anything special. With no injuries we’d almost all pick the same team.
The last difficult decision I can remember an England manager ever having to make was when we had Robson/Reid/McMahon battling for the same role, and maybe choosing the left sided midfielder (coz there wasn’t one).
What the team needs is someone to boot there precious arses up in the air if they are slacking. McClaren cant be any worse than Sven.
I still reckon Pearce would have been best, even in a part time role, what player wouldn’t respect him? With someone else (Trevor Brooking?) working full time as a scout (as if we need one, Sky does it for us) and generally sorting out long term strategies.

I'm fecked off due to prospect of seeing more of his orrible weasley kite on our screens over the next 3 or more years. He's one dull turd with Man Utd connections to boot.

Maclaren may have had a charisma bypass when God was giving the personalities out,but,he has had intensive media training from that bird off ITN news to try and cure this..Even though it is'nt an issue at the FA.And why should it be in a results game,anyhow?(they employed Sven after all,who only became mildly interesting once he was found out to be tommin about with all these fillies!

Maclaren says there is more to him than meets the eye now he's landed the big banana England job,that for pure media and public scrutinisation, is not unlike the Prime Minister's!
One thing is for sure,we will be getting to know more about him in the next few years!

Bollox to MacClaren. He's a fooking lightweight. Big Sam Allerdyce would have been the best bet - just one look at that glowering fizzog and the opposition would all be reduced to quivering wrecks. result = England to win the next world cup no problems!
