Just been listening through the new Pet Shop Boys album. Sounds pretty good IMO, although the songs are perhaps not as immediate I thought they would be. This may be because they are relatively slow.

The song called Twentieth Century, which is an electronic mid-tempo number is probably my favourite and not only because it sounds a bit like an instrumental track I made on my Roland XP-30 last year. I do like the catchy I'm With Stupid single as well. It's supposed to be about Blair and Bush isn't it?

Who else have heard the album already and what did you think of it?

Looking forward it with anticipation. But if it sounds like Nightlife, I'm not there.

Where can we listen to it? It's certainly not in US stores yet.

It's not released yet, but as usual, it has already leaked out on some p2p networks. Slsk is a good place to start looking...

Is the new album supposed to be a bit like the Behaviour album.

If they're 'relatively slow' that makes me wonder if it sounds like 'Release'; which would be the worst possible news!

Release was bad not because it was slow but because it had too much guitar. Never let a true synthpop band near a guitar (ie: Depeche Mode and Exciter).

Sorry, I can't really tell which previous album it reminds the most.

Nevertheless, I gave it a second listening and it occured to me that it's a very uneven record with a few really good songs and the rest is really forgettable, in parts even unlistenable such as the bad italo disco track Integral.

Among the best is the most uptempo song called Minimal, which lifts the song melody of Kraftwerk's Telephone Call in the middle eight and then during the last minute there is a Hooky style bass which is followed by lush strings, french horn and pizzicato. Comparable to the big ending in Dracula's Castle, actually.

Got most of FUNDAMENTAL and what I've heard so far is pretty damn good.MINIMAL,INTEGRAL,CASANOVA IN HELL,but particularly like LUNA PARK.Quite surprised though,it's got less in common with Trevor Horn aka "Slave To The Rhythm" and more in common with Trevor Horn aka "Video Killed The Radio Star"

I've heard "I'm with Stupid", "Integral", and "Casanova in Hell" and I've loved all three songs so far.

I had a chance to listen to the album's audio samples off the forementioned website. I'm leaning towards buying it but there are some boring tunes, too.
