I think the US gov't going outsouce the bombing to israel. Who could blame iran for wanting for wanting nuclear power considering who their neighbors are.

Screw the car. Start taking the bus and subway. A monthly pass in Boston - for the bus and subway - costs less than a week's worth of gas. Then again, I guess that only works if you live in a city.

When I was a lad, petrol was a quarter and air was free...
The high petrol prices are a blessing. It's the only thing that'll wean us off of our profligate buring of carbon fuels. Bring on $10 per gallon, I say.

Uh, Comrade likes VERY affordable air travel too. But the problem here in the U.S. is that there has been no effort whatsoever to address global warming; we go on driving monstrous gas-guzzling SUVs while the world burns. The only effort Congress has made to decreasing our dependence on mideast oil is to attempt to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil production; this would bring something like a total of a six-month supply of the U.S.'s oil needs onto the market, and destroy caribou calving grounds.
Americans behave as if they have a God-given right to buy whatever cars they choose; Republicans piss and moan about Government interference in the market in the form of fuel-economy standards. But when that same market makes gas prices rise, Americans start pissing and moaning about the cost of the market choices they made; Republicans and Democrats start using Government to interfere with the market to lower prices.
There's no longer any doubt-- even in Ostrich-land-- that we're experiencing the effects of gloal warming; it's also thought that we've just experience Peak Oil. If that's true, prices will continue to trend towards rising. The era of cheap oil is over.
Americans have shown an utter lack of willingness to deal with the reality that global warming and our dependence on mideast oil are not good for the U.S. or the rest of the world. Therefore, the only apparent way to address these issues is to allow the market to force us to make the choices we refuse to make voluntarily.
**Oil prices have never reflected the true costs of oil; if they did-- for example, if the costs of war, military occupation, cancer and lung diseases, crop damage, etc.-- were added to the cost of each gallon of petrol, there would never have been an era of "cheap oil."
I swear the cost of gas has almost doubled since I left four years ago. Not quite at $3 a gallon here but pretty close. Luckily I've got a nice new Civic that does 30-40 mpg! 
About the first thing I said after getting off the plane was "Holy shit! How big are the cars?" Can't believe people are still riding around in these land yachts. They must live in them.

Toon's gotta be out of date Comrade, I thought most gas stations charged for air these days.
95 pence a Litre now. If they honestly want to wean people off driving,and onto public transport,then perhaps think about subsidising it,instead of screwing the public both ways.
