Should we use our own OR let nasty bastards lurk and spout abuse?

Just wondered seeing as I was called a cunt by an unknown the other night. I don't object to abuse, but like to know who feels the need to be a knobhead and why!!

Just like to add, I have gone on with a different name before anybody says anything, but purely for boredom reasons and to start a little guessing game!!! Sad I know!

Ah, but was he/she caling you a cnut?!

Or calling the person-you-were-pretending-to-be a cnut?!

Totally agree - the few times I have been in there, there has seemed to be a bit of nastiness (as opposed to good-natured banter), which is unacceptable whether it comes from lurkers or regular NOOLers who have adopted a pseudonym... I think folks would generally be more pleasant if they knew who they were talking to and that people knew who they were...

I wouldn't worry about it Luce, anybody who'd call you that has obviously never met you. The fact that somebody would say that under a fake name suggests to me that they're cowards.

I've not used the chatroom yet, but i'd try to do some fishing, see if the person has the guts to call it you under their 'real' user name.

Er, is that genuine progress though?!

Call me Old Skool, but, calling someone a cnut from a [ahem] 'real' username isn't really much of an advancement from calling them a cnut from a supposed username?!

Or have I missed something?

It's still just insults hurled in hyperspace.

Haven't lost sleep over it, just seems a little uncalled for because if it's happened to me, what about the "gentler" ladylike people of NOOL who would not quite happily kick the shit out of the said person. Seriously, any new people who join and turn out to be genuine NO fans with a good amount to contribute to the website as a whole may be put off before they even start.

what's the chatroom??

is this where the likes of Twatto, Owe-ie and Cozzy go for some cyber sex?

Not been in chatroom; but I presumed everyone would have had to log in under there NOOL names... maybe this is something for Spotnick to look at.

Point taken Al and I agree, just words from an unknown. It's nice to know who you are corresponding with though and similarly who to avoid

Yeah, but at least you know who you're dealing with and can look out for them in future. Alright it's unlikely you'll ever meet them but most people have some details under their profile so you've some idea of the kind of person you're dealing with.

Most people under their normal user names tend to be consistent with people they like/dislike. If it's totally anonymous it's too easy to be insulted by somebody who is just too cowardly to say it otherwise.

I went in the other night as Vikki, but no-one in there got it

I now use Shug_Zico_Viking when I'm bored :thumb:

Course if everybody is anonymous you can let the insults flow!

Jarvo is right it's all insults hurled in cyberspace no matter what the nick, call them a failed abortion and move on.

I went in there once as me, or at least tried to but couldn't get in as there was already some knobcheese logged in pretending to be me.

Thought you only called yourself Vikki down Daphne's Wine Bar, every other Tuesday, and only when the money's right?!

Have you got the hang of them stilletoes yet?! :skeptic:

That's an even more worrying point...

Log ins with NOOL ID only I say!

(??if possible??)

don't worry, lucy. a few NOOLers have taken to calling me all sorts of things to others in person when i'm not there to defend myself. at least many have decided to withhold judgment until they've actually met me, so it's proven to be a bit of a backlash. it's only a website, and while people may irritate me sometimes on the site, they might be entirely different in person. so if i were you, i wouldn't worry.

Just ask Maya, I mean 'sis', who everybody is LJ! Seemed to work last night....all good clean fun, except for the Vagisil bit of course!

And it was 1 1 1 1 1 i think you'll find :ignore:

Think its a larf guessing who people are, as long as they leave clues
