No Defoe? If Owen wasnae fit he'd be the ideal replacement! A clinical finisher anywhere near the box.

Walcott looked shit hot fer Southampton, he's faster than Rocket Mick on Giro day and scored a couple of beauties (unlike Wayno in a scouse brof) but he's not even got a game for the Arse.

It's a helluva gamble, but he could be a match winner a la Owen coming on as a sub a few year back.

Obviously I hope Engerland fail though :spit:

He's famous for one goal. Against us. Againt our 3rd choice keeper who was hopelessly off his line playing into blinding sunlight (me, Gordie and Gary sat behind that very same goal that day and watched 70mins of footie through our fingers before the sun finally fcut off).

It's Darren Bent I feel most sorry for. Thought he might lose out cos of lack of experience (one full season in the top flight) but to lose out to a lad who's NEVER played in the top flight EVER. Fucking farcical.

Don't rate Bent. Bit raw for international togger IMO. Bit of pace and a good dig but not a lot of sophistication. Bit like Cisse.

But when you're comparing him to a lad who's never played 1 single second of top flight football?!

Just doesn't make sense.

Interesting to note Cole is lised as a striker, not a midfielder.

When I saw the list that was my thinking.

The logic is backwards. If you follow it through, does that mean england should be full of players from newly promoted championship teams? I mean they looked REALLY good against teams that just went down to league 1!

It's a fucking joke.

Walcott wont go to the world cup. He's clearly one for the future so is probably just there to get a feeling for the training, atmosphere etc.

Cant really argue with Defoe and Wright-Phillips being left out. Not played enough to warrant a place in the squad. Then again, neither has Walcott.

Liam - that is the 23 he is taking. Walcott is a gamble, but he is shit off a shovel and will win pens for Beckham to blast over the bar!

Is it? :confused2:

I thought today was the preliminary squad.

Bloody hell, its now therefore possible that Walcott could play in the world cup, and have a champions league winners medal before he even plays for Arsenal.

Madness!

Poor old Wright-Phillips, that'll teach him to go to Chelsea :rofl::rofl::rofl:

As for Walcott, why not? Supposedly he's the "next big thing" to hit English football and remember both Rooney and Gascoigne were talked about long before their league debuts.

I can't understand Hargreaves either, I'd much rather see Cole as a midfielder and Bent or Ashton as forward.

looking at the pathetic list Strikers, I am now starting to think that Robbie Fowler wouldn't be a bad option. at least he's in goalscoring form.

70% of Liverpool fans on their website agree.

Bold = WHY?!?!??! Shite. :nod:

I agree that Defoe should be in it, I would much prefer him to Crouch.

Hargreaves. Fuck me, he is utter bollocks. And where is SWP??? He should be in there definitely. I like Downing so I'm glad he's in, and I can't really comment on Theo Walcott cos I've never really seen him play  Sounds really mint though from what I've heard. Big gamble tho.

My Squad:

Paul Robinson, David James, Robert Green; Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell, Jamie Carragher, Wes Brown; David Beckham, Michael Carrick, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Shawn Wright Phillips, Stewart Downing, Joe Cole, Aaron Lennon; Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, Peter Crouch, Jermaine Defoe, Darren Bent.

Fuck off Hargreaves and Jenas

Swap Wayne Bridge for Wes Brown, much better defender and he's had a great season. Carragher can play left back if Cole gets injured or something, he's really versatile. Brown would be a much better choice than Bridge.

Theo Walcott :nono: Defoe in for him, and I would also take Darren Bent, top English scorer in the Premiership has to go.

SWP is quality, and I would much rather see him on the right side of midfield than Beckham. Granted Beckham has good games, but when he plays a bad one, which is pretty often, he really is shit.

I'll agree that he's never really impressed in an England shirt, but he can play really well and score mint goals, and I would take him over an untried 17 year old who has never played a Premiership game anyday

I reckon it would be interesting to see what squad Mclaren would have picked.......

Erickson second favourite on Bet Fair for the Real Madrid job - WHY ?

As for his team selection, it is ace, I am praying we get stuffed, as the newly formed Gala Coral Group could float on the results of the World Cup, and my shares will blossom.

After me

ARG - EN - TINA

or an England - Italy 0-0 final after 90 minutes will do, the we win and I win.

Rubbish. (shit about to defend a Spurs player here)

He's a brilliant striker, not lazy AT ALL, i'd be happy with a player like him in any squad. The only problem is- he's been out most of the season, shame, because he had a blinder the season before. Having said that, considering the players he has picked, that should not really have been a factor.

I'd have gambled on Defoe above anyone else.

Who gives a fuck? Somewhere far away I hope. One of the funniest episodes of my life was when we were on holiday in Antigua, and one of the locals insisted on showing us where Emile Heskey's father had grown up, thinking he was a great English football hero. When I said quite nonchalantly that they should have sunk the cunt's boat, he was gobsmacked! They honestly believed Heskey was a national hero.

Never impressed me in an England shirt.

Being a Canadian it did take him some time before he could commit( FIFA regulations - Wales or Canada) to the England. As long as he doesn't get injured. He played the full 90 minutes against South Korea and Cameroon. then took injury after 15 minutes against Argentia, think that it was. that was all August 2001 then the Worlds 2002. and Euro 2004 in Portugal.. be watching.
