Do you forgive OR forget?

So here's my dilemma. I liked this one band for a while... in fact, one of their previous CDs was one that I wore out.

But, now, their latest CD is horrible. Even their most loyal fans believe that the CD should be in the garbage.

Do you forgive a band if their latest effort is crap, or do you cross them off your list? I'm on the fence here... I am v. surprised that their latest effort sounds like crap.

And they are not even remotely related to New Order.

can't you just forget about the one bad album & still enjoy the rest?

just listen to the old stuff. the stuff you enjoy and hope for the next album.

Generally I find even the worst album by a band that I love can creep up on you and months later, you'll skip the really horrible tracks to find the one or two that you like. Sadly, this theory has not held for Hail to the Yhief by Radiohead (I have yet to make it all the way through that mess, and I've had it for two years or so)

Forgive and forget... Concentrate on the good stuff, and in time the crap won't seem so crap... Republic has grown hugely on me over the years, and I've been listening to both The Other Two albums recently, which I initially hated and I'm lovin' it :) It's like any relationship I suppose - however bad things get you still have the happy memories to keep you going!

I love U2 but i hated their Zooropa phase so I just don't listen to stuff from that time.

strangely enough that's the only propper album of theirs i own.

I cannot listen to Radiohead's Hail To The Thief, and won't. It's shite. Same with Pablo Honey. The rest of their stuff still gets a play though.

Haven't even bought the latest Bunnymen offering yet, or the last one. Do like the older stuff though.

Weird. Zooropa is also the only U2 album I can stomach! Reminds me of my year in small town Czechoslovakia. Love Lemon, love the Perfecto Mix more.

Lemon Perfecto reminds me of a holiday in Goa, January 95. Mate of mine got hitched so 60 of us piled over for two weeks of debauchery. Oakenfold had just done his infamous 'Goa Mix' on the Essential Mix one month earlier and *everyone* was blasting it out on the beach. And the opening track?! Lemon.

Funny how Oakenfold has fallen off the radar in the past five years or so. Guess it's just a symptom of the general collapse in dance music/clubbing. Guessing he's probably still a big draw in foreign parts though.

I love their early stuff like The Joshua Tree. Has my almost my all time favourite song - With Or Without You - hauntingly beautiful.

went off them after the second album, they lost a lot of energy, but do like the more experimental stuff of zooropa. have the lemon/ melon remix cd - some quality mixes on there

Also like Unforgettable Fire and Under a Blood Red Sky.

Joshua Tree came out in 1987 - nearly 20 years ago - I'd call it an early one!!

does still show up every so often. Allstarz Virus. w/ Steve Osborne think. . a few soundtracks. Ready Steady Go -in Collateral but did not want to see it because simply can't stomach Tom Cruise in anything past Rainman.

Hmmm try and try again, young man. For me, this was a return to form and a return from Thom Yorke's writers block which is so obvious during the previous two albums, Kid A and Amnesiac.

It takes some work and listening, but the first track 2+2=5, for example, is the best think they have (had) done in some years.

New album due anyday now, as we speak.

The Bunnymen are coming to my neck of the words in the second week of June..... I'm thinking of actually going to a concert!

PS Actually make that two concerts! Radiohead is coming to my neck of the words in late June! yay!

is it a NO fan thing? Zooropa + Pop are the only U2 albums I still play once a while, got sick of all the rest they did.

ermm ot.. forgive. Even if it's more than one awful album... one brilliant record can make up for a lot of bad ones.

Lemon is a quality track, love it.

For me, if a band I liked put out a bad CD, I'll normally give them atleast one more try on the next CD that they release to see if it improves or if the last release was just a fluke.

If it doesn't improve, then I'll just stick to the stuff I did like from them in the past. Then, if they release another CD I would have to hear it before I would go out and purchase it, to make sure it is something I wanted.

Ditto to that. Amnesiac is one I have a real hard time listening to. . .thier one bad album on my list. was glad Hail to the Thief came back. Like Burt said, it was return to their original form.

Old Monkey, I'm disappointed in you. Pablo Honey is a great album!!! Not sure if you listened to it after you heard the others? Listening to the progression as it happened was enjoyable.

FORGIVE. Unless it's two or more shit albums in a row.Every band/artist goes through either a bad patch or "experimental phase". Take PSB's RELEASE.Not my favourite by a long shot.Only SAMURAI IN AUTUMN hints at anything PSB's done before.It's just something they wanted to do,strip it down and go for a more guitar sound with Mr Marr. But PSB without electro just isn't PSB.Fortunately they bounced back to doing what they do best with DISCO 3. On the other hand I've given up on Radiohead and Blur,because they're too heavy going now.
