Good morning shed people,
I have an old cassette tape of New Order recorded live thru the mixing desk at Kingston poly 12-3-83.
and Birmingham 9-5-83.
I'm thinking of trying to put it on to CD to stop any further deterioration; And wondered if any of you had any tips or advice for me.

i put up those pics to counter the Owens family album. 
the shed doctor should be able to help you out in trasferring your tapes.
one way would be to hook a tape deck up to a mp3 recorder and then convert the signal. don't ask me how. that is just how a friend does it.
i'm off to watch the rugby league at a mates place tonight, so there'll be no record number of posts. :D

i dunno i didn't take it that badly. i guess i had no great expectations on the start of the tournament. i am happy they got as far as they did.

More technical types will probably disagree but I put a lot of vinyl onto CD using a program I found on t'net, basically hook your hifi/tape deck to your PC, press record on the program, start the tape and it'll leave you with MP3s or WAV files... If you want to have individual tracks, just stop the program at the required point and then restart it for the next song... Can't remember off the top of my head which program it was but it might have been this...
Of course the Doctor will probably explain why this is a very bad idea and give you a better alternative...

that sounds about the level of technicality that I should be able to manage,
I of course will await the Doc's reply too,

I really wish you could embed sounds on this forum, so I caould do a materialization sound :D
2 options
- as you say, do it yer self or
- Find same gigs online, probably from a lower generation source.
option 2 if yer up to it would be better.
If you really want to convert them yourself......
probably the first thing will need, is one of the most annoyingly hard to find cables on earth ( ebay has billions tho :D ) a minijack to minijack. to connect your walkman or whatever to the pc's line in socket ( usually colour coded blue) Then you open your windows mixer, find it's recording page, and set line in as your source. Next, you need anything that can record, the above program will do the trick, but if yer up to the task, steal wavelab or soundforge, as long as it's an old version the makers could not care LESS.
Should be obvious from there on really.
Tips..... power the walkman if that's what yer using, off batteries, those wanker power supplies hum like hell. You may want to think about noise reduction, record the track with any dolby function set to OFF, and any tape selector function st to I or Fe. Do your noise reduction digitally. For this, the best thing you'll ever come accross is "cool edit pro" which has a profile based noise filter that I find comparable with the best from the likes of Waves and Steinberg.....you let it listen to the silence before a song, (a big of blank tape, but NOT the leader tape, they sound very different, as i'm sure you know, there's more hiss when the leader tape's gone and you're playing blank audio tape), and it learns the noise profile of that tape, you can then remove your desired amount. Over do it and it goes a bit alien sounding, be judicious. Think about saving in flac format, or at VERy least 320kbps MP£ to prevent the encoding process removing any of the already tenuous signal.

crowd was CRAZY. went mental in there with my mates and it was really hot, kinda unbearable heat at first but then when AiC came on it suddenly became more than bearable.
we ended up topless, singing AiC and cheering the Italian fans whilst looking round london for a cab. TOP night.
