I met a bloke coming the other way in Perth (Scotland) a few years ago. Similar thing, concrete reservation on 2-lane road with loads of trucks in the other lane. I must have pulled a couple of interesting faces myself, but was really concentrating on not dying in a horrible wreck.

The only thing I remember about the driver of the other car was his face: pressed up to the windscreen, shaking his fist at me as he flashed past. Clearly he thought that I was the one in the wrong lane.

Well, at least I had a littlebit better sense the the man that almost hit you. I didn't swear at them, I felt pretty embarrased, and my buddy in the passenger seat had to change his drawers.

and we wonder why the japanese aren't too keen on american-made cars. quick! get a brain surgeon!

Changing the drive side usually requires some serious re-engineering. There are cars that are designed with both layouts in mind so they can build as many of each as they need. There are even one or two cars so cleverly designed that the can have their steering side decided at the time the steering goes in, but those are defo the exception.

Conclusion...buy a McLaren F1....the seat is in the middle, with a seat for a hot bird (or guy if that's yer thing) on either side, makes a noise like God having an orgasm, does a hair under 250mph, has a gold plated engine bay, and phones the McRon central computer up when it gets sick so it can fix it remotely. $1,000,000US /me looks whistfully out of the window thinking "no point learning to drive til I have the money"

Actually I would have thought that European and Asian cars were boned in the US anyway because import taxes aside, they are mainly full 3 pedal stick shifters.

european and Japanese car makers make cars for both left and right hand drive. mind you sometimes they don't swap over the indicators. as for American makes you can by some Chrysler and jeep models here. i don't know of any other American makes that are also right hand drive.

steve is right. it requires major engineering or reengineering to swap over steering wheel sides.

The American cars that where in Okinawa were all from American military that brought them with them. Since there aren't that many of them they are worth a bit of money to the Japanese.

Another thing that makes that impractical for the Japanese is their JCI inspections every 5 years. . .costs alot of money, so there really aren't that many old cars in Japan. . .95% of the cars on the road are 5years old or newer.

very refreshing.

I was able to drive faster on a public road than a fookin race track.

True. Only managed 135mph on the the Nurburgring but got to 145mph on an autobahn

and they have better sausages than us too :\ohwell:

and beer.

I fuckin love Germany. But dont like girls with hairy armpits :nono:

You found an Autobahn where you could drive 145 mph? Wow...An Autobahn without traffic jam impossible...

But watch out, folks... Our laws for speeding have been changed. You have to pay much more and you can loose your licence "faster".

And BA, I'm armpit-shaved :D .
