Oh... he's certainly a massive fish, and much idolised by fundamentalists. They took out six of his deputies too, including his no 2, Al-Rahman, who led them to him. Can see a big reaction for a couple of weeks, in terms of car bombs etc, but its a big positive, long term. Don't forget, he's a minority in a country and not generally regarded as welcome, by Shi'ites or the majority of Sunnis. It was moderate Sunnis that shopped him, unhappy with his constant destabilisation, and disregard for human life.

Glad they got the fucker, but there's some reports that many civilians were killed as well; not surprising in itself, but why couldn't American special forces have gone in on the ground? That way no innocents would have been splattered.

There were only six people killed, all of whom were in one house, one of which was Al-Zarqawi, another being his lieutenant. The house was in a very isolated area, and was a "SAFE" house, so how many civilians could have been killed?
And it wasn't carpet bombing, it was TWO bombs.
As far as sending in fround forces, it's much quicker to send in the planes, and the commanders wanted to make sure Zarqawi did not escape.

It was a building constructed of reinforced concrete. It was decided to use two to make sure the building was destroyed an Al-Zarqawi was dead. And again, there were no other buildings in the area, so what "collateral damage" was there to be caused?

There were buildings not too far away and we all know how precision bombing is not quite as precise as it's cracked up to be at times.
The picture I saw didn't have any buildings very close to it. As I Am John Barnes said, the building was reinforced so a second bomb was probably prudent.
Well...it appears there was another building close enough to sustain damage...

When the Western media posts video of a Western soldier lopping off the head of a civilian off with a kitchen knife, then I will equate it to being the same.

The difference being that the journalist is simply trying to report the news, whilst al-Zaharwi is responsible for God knows how many murders, with many more in his future, if he wasn't turned into an Arab corpse.

While I'm certainly no fan of the USA's high-fives and whooping when they accomplish something like this, I was under the impression that they have to show at least a glimpse of the corpse otherwise people (the Iraqis in particular) won't believe he's actually dead? It's not like they're going to take the USA's word for it straight off.
It's a pretty powerful propaganda tool and they did the same thing with Saddam when they captured him. They had to actually prove they had him otherwise who would've believed them?
But yeah, some of it is a symbolic "fuck you" as well.
