STEELERS QB in Motorcycle accident

Stupid stupid stupid. Probably equally stupid of the Steelers not to have something in the contract prohibiting that. Not just riding a motorcycle without a helmet, mind you, but riding a motorcyle, period. I know some football players have similar clauses, like no skiing allowed in their contract. It's not like Rothlessberger's important to the team, right?
At the very least, this will force the Steelers (and other teams) to put safety clauses in their contracts from now on. Roethlessberger (don't know if I spelled it right, who can tell?) is a great young talent, so here's hoping the most he gets out of this is a concussion, some minor but non-life-threatening trauma, and a new appreciation for protecting his skull ![]()
Ben, Ben, Ben.....
Hopefully he'll get through this, I bet our resident Steeler fan (Ed Dalder) is probably shocked by this accident even more.

True, as the resident Steeler Nut, I was stunned....WHAT?? We had waited 20 years since Terry Bradshaw for a QB this good and he goes through a windshield without a helmet at 30 miles per hour? I was surprised he lived and then wondered did his stupidity just cost his team big time? The City of Pittsburgh treats the Steekers right now like Gods and the denizens of Da Burgh almost had a collective coronary.
John, My cousin Jamie's fiance, works for a Chevy dealer in Pittsburgh. His dealership has promotional deals where the starting kicker and a starting LB get to use a car. John & Jamie told me that ben was a nut. It seemed a matter of time.
he is 24, on top of the world, very attractive, and felt invicible. Finding out you're mortal can be a bitch someimes.

Terry Bradshaw is also an idiot, and even he told big ben to wear a helmet many times.
An epal of mine on LJ went to school with Ben.. she doesn't have nice things to say.
He's probably an arrogant punk, like most profesional athletes. Let's hope this has knocked some sens into him.

According to part of the AP story:
"A standard NFL player's contract prohibits any offseason activity that can be harmful, but not all players have clauses for activities such as motorcycle riding, all-terrain vehicle riding and skydiving. Roethlisberger's contract apparently did not, probably because the Steelers had no indication he indulged in motorcycle riding before signing the first-round draft pick."
I also thought they said on sports center that the Steelers sent a letter to his agent, putting Ben on notice that if he can't play, that they were going to go after his signing bonus for this year.
The sad part is that Ben in an interview last year after Winslow got into his accident, stated that since there was no law in PA about having to wear a helmet, he was not going to, since he liked the wind on his face![]()

Living in PA, I know a lot of bikers who say they won't wear helmets because it obstructs their view and restricts movement. They claim it's the difference between an open and a closed casket at the funeral, so if they're going to die anyway why wear one?
This argument is at least a little better thought out than "I like the wind in my face"

Yeah, I heard the same thing this morning on Sportscenter about the letter, though they didn't say the Steelers would definitely go after his siging bonus. I assume it depends on how much time he misses.
