I went to see Coldplay live and they were FANTASTIC - I hope I won't be condemned for liking Coldplay but they put on a fantastic show. Anyway, I thought you might be interested to know that the song played before they went onstage (you know how they play tapes to revv up the crowd) was none other than Procession by New Order! I was jumping and singing along and no one else new what the heck it was but it sounded fantastic booming over the loud speakers at the Entertainment Centre - full with 13 000 people. So there you go - Coldplay are Procession fans. Thought it was an interesting tid bit of information!

really glad you had a good time.they are very good live, but total overplay here in uk.dread hearing them now actually.who would buy an album?,you dont need to,because you hear it non stop outside your home anyway 
There were actually Fair Trade stalls and people with petitions everywhere! Telling everyone Chris Martin hoped Coldplay fans would support the cause.
I think theyre a good band,its the in thing to slag them off though in the UK. They have made 3 good albums,and do come up with the goods on b.sides too. Better than the likes of Keane,Franz,Kaisers and Dirty Pretty Things,Just wish theyd be happy being Coldplay instead of coming across like they need to be U2.
My daughter is going to see them Wednesday week.
Mil - you shouldn't feel that you will be condemned for liking Coldplay. Everyone has different tastes in music and of course everyone thinks their own taste is the best. I can tell you I would much rather listen to Coldplay than half the crap that's in the charts these days. :)

Personally I think they're the Dire Straits for my generation except instead of emulating Bob Dylan they're emulating mid-period U2 with a glossier production. They've brought nothing new to music at all. As you pointed out, their desperation to actually be U2 has finished them off in many people's eyes.
Never liked the singer either... 6 months or so back when that "Fix You" single was all over the radio and he was groaning out the vocal in his high pitched whine even my mum gave me a funny look and wanted the radio turned off, and she'll listen to anything! Seriously.
But it was Chris Martin arm in arm with Bono grinning and sipping champers while deciding how to save all the "poor starving brown people" in Africa that was truly the last straw for me regarding both bands. It's a textbook sign that a band have peaked and are slowly being consumed by their own self-importance when they jump on the poverty bandwagon.
Thank god New Order haven't and hopefully never will, they've got their feet on the ground and realise your average music punter wants a good tune and not an "are you buying the wrong bananas?" lecture.
In all honesty, they werent bad at IOW a couple of weeks ago. Obviously, the newer stuff (Talk, White Shadows, Square) pisses on anything from the 1st 2 albums.
Saying that, my true feelings on the band will be revealed later in the year!

Coldplay are one of the dullest and most unoriginal bands around. For all Chris Martin's eco-conscious posturing, one can't help but recall to mind the similar antics of a certain Gordon Sumner.

Well I enjoyed them - their quality was not the issue here. That night aot of people had a good time and thats what music is all about. I was chuffed they played Procession, I enjoyed the night and thats all there is to it. :)
(I read an article where White shadows was described as having a New Order-esque bassline and this was a sign that the band was reaching greatness. Now what do you say to that?)

That this PROVES that Coldplay are completely unoriginal and they have to shamelessly rip off other bands (Kraftwerk, U2, Radiohead, and now New Order) just to get some credibility, perhaps?? ;)
Mil, Don't feel too bad, I think CP is pretty good as well. Though I will have to say everytime they do an album they seem to get a little worse. Parachutes is an excellent album. . .but as others have said, they are trying to reach some sort of standard with their music and it's turning into middle-class yuppie soccer mom music.

I do make an exception for Coldplay though. I find them genuinely offensive.
I thought they were fucking awful at Glastonbury and everyone was raving about them.
I legged it from the field as soon as New Order finished and I watched them from the bar.
