Just wondered as there is a broad spectrum of people here;

I'm thinking of doing a static line jump for my next birthday; As it's something I've always wanted to do. Any one got any experiences to share?

And No I wont be needing a volunteer to push me out; But thanks to all those of you that were going to offer.

Cheers:thumb:

YES!

It was fantastic. Did a static line jump from Headcorn Aerodrome in Kent about 5 years ago. On the Saturday jumped off a box for 10 hours practicing like a dork with everyone else then on Sunday it came so natural.. to chuck yourself out of a plane....

Do it. You won't count on the way down just shout "FUCK!" until your parachutes open. Falling out of a plane at 2000 feet provides you with a mortality check even if it is for 4 seconds.

And the silence as you descend is awesome. It was weird seeing planes take off underneath you far below as you descended silently in your parachute.

The landing is piss easy too as you land in a gravel pit repeatedly practicing on the day before.

It is awesome. Do it before you bottle it.

I wanted to do so for my father's birhday (60 years old on the 1st of August)... He was very happy that I asked, but my mother disagrees as he almost died in 1981... Furthermore, he thinks my legs are not ok for the landing - you know, I am on the sick side like you...

I wish I could do it with him someday as he was a founder of the national team of parachutism... (I could not believe him until he showed me evidences)

I'm doing one in a few months for charity, in memory of my best friend who recently died. Always wanted to do it, finally am!

Will let you know- but certain it's going to be the best rush ever!

Well, close enough anyway!

:) Thanks all,(Good luck with your jump babe) I'm definitely planning on doing it.

My birthday isn't til next May, maybe I should just take the plunge sooner!

I just wasn't sure about weather or not to go static line.(which I love the idea of because you are all alone in the experience and it also means that you are certificated to do it again. Also there's a whole day of training which I actually like the idea of because you would get to know people and it would be more of an experience.)

or tandem (which is from a higher drop and slightly cheaper, only 20 mins prep, but you're strapped to a stranger.)

Did a 12,000 ft tandem jump. Cant say being strapped very tightly to the front of an ex-para for 15 mins in a plane was the most enjoyable of experiences!

Was great but its probably a better buzz doing a static jump on your own.

I did a parachute jump for my 30th Birthday. I could have jumped alone from 3,000 feet, or tandem from 12,000. So i chose the hard-core option (actually no, i chose tandem because i thought i might bottle it if i was doing it alone and i had £750 of Charity money riding on me doing it).

It is one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Except i ended up with the young Kamikaze instructor, and as the other people were merely falling backwards out of the plane, we went last and did a spectacular triple somersault out of it. I didn't know which was was up for ages.

I would recommend it to anybody. Even my Dad wants to do one now!

Going to go it alone!

As i'm doing it with one of Tottenham's firm (yes, yes......4 years in the making you fucker), guessed my life was already compromised!

Can't wait- 28th July!:\ohwell:

:edit:- and have about 150 people coming to see me! Good job I have plenty of bottle!

Only 150? You're not very popular are you? Want me to bring some of my friends down? You know, fill the numbers up? :evil4:

My bollocks retreat whenever I go near heights. Literally, physically.

Couldn't go near the edge of the Grand Canyon couple of years back. Had a couple of mates stand on the side and wanted me to take a pick with the drop behind them but couldn't bring myself within 10ft of them before feeling queasy.

Bless.

not jumped out of a plane, done some abseiling/rappeling got by okay, going to the Delamere Forest branch of Go-Ape ( goape.co.uk )later in the year which boasts a 200m long zip slide that nephewgarymac described as awesome.

as for the plane jump, I always need an emergency piss before Doctor visits, exams, interviews, plane trips, when it's ma round, going on the London Eye and all manner of other things , the thought of some handle bar moustachioed airforce type telling me I should have gone before we set off would probably earn him a fookin slap and me a trip to the ground sans parachute ....

Dont do bungee either, the thought of bouncing back up through a cloud of my own piss, would put me in therapy for fookin years:eek3:

Ive done Abseiling before too, didn't like the idea at first... I used to rock climb, but when I got to the top I'd spend half an hour trekking back round to the bottom rather than abseil. Really loved it once I did it though.

Ha.

Come from a family of climbers, you can imagine the drill growing up- and even now. Have a house in Snowdonia!

Massive young climing community there again. :thumb:

Died for a bit, but believe me- some well fit.........

anyways........don't do it myself anymore, climbing, but.........still love going away to the alps etc... off there soon. My son loves mountains/climbing too.

Did do my Duke of Edinburgh, leadership award 2 years ago, was very significant point for me, not least because we got pulled of a mountain and thought we were going to perish! Got my certificate this year- Hardcore!

Used to work front line with youth, now behind the scenes at a uni, but some of my best memories are of seeing the kids (refugee, kids from the street- most that had never had such experiences) I used to work with, come with us on residential weekends and climb etc..... Miss it! It really had such an impact on how MOST of them, moved on and changed their lives.

So, up for anything that really scares me, EXCEPT, jumping on a wire. can't face springing up and down for a bit. Would rather just launch myself into the wilderness.

I'm one of those people that if something scares me, i FORCE myself to do it. Never run. Stand firm!

No but I have been upside down underwater in a helicopter simulator! shit

I'm with El Jarvo on this subject, cannot stand heights.

Good luck with the forthcoming jumps, I wish I had the balls.

Having said that, i couldn't do the underwater upside down helicopter thing (saw it on An Officer and a Gentleman).

I also couldn't do a bungee jump, but i'm happy to throw myself out at 12,000 feet.

I'd rather do it than a bungee jump.. I'd have a trust issue with a bungee cord.. Knowing my luck I'd get a perishutte, instead of a parachutte:skeptic:

Fuck it!!!I'd do the bastard,if I could have 2 backup parachuttes:thumb:

Some years ago, me and 2 friends decided to be parachutist. After 15 jumps, I was still scared to death, so I quit. My friends did a few more, but then quit.

Good luck, and don't shit your pants. :)
