ACR: Live America 1985

I downloaded A Certain Ratio's Live America 1985 from iTunes this morning (it's the only thing by ACR the US iTunes store carries), and I'm quite enjoying it. They really were far more funky live than on album, but some of the songs sound eerily close to Sting's band from Bring On The Night - especially the alto sax work. I won't hold that against them...they were doing it first. ;)

I've picked up the first three albums reissued on Soul Jazz Records. I need to listen to them more.

Aye, top set, that one... Showcases their early and newer stuff really well, probably better than the actually 'Best Of..' from that period, The Old And The New...

And why the heeck did the promoter feel the need to put "Formally Joy Division" under New Order's name? I could understand it on a 1980 or 81 poster, but not 1985

Anyway, ACR's Live in America 1985 is a top album.

souljazzrecords.co.uk is a joy. They've done what looks like an excellent job with their reissues.

As for the Certain General- ACG - for as long as I can remember whenever I see ACR- think of Prix un Certain Regard. du festival de Cannes. God , now there is even less hope of keeping it straight.
