The Replacements were one of those bands, along with NO, that made my high school years bearable. Apparently Paul, Tommy, and Chris are talking about getting back together after 11 years! Though I take a certain pride in being able to say I saw the Mats on their farewell tour, I think it would be cool to have them back. Hopefully they'll be able to make some viable new music after all this time like NO.

I know a couple posters know the Mats (and even saw the original lineup!) so what is the possibility that the Mats will get back together and even after that make interesting and good music?

As much as I bitch about U.S. release issues and Barney's live singing, I think it's great that NO can still put out exciting and vital music after all this time. Very few bands last this long and even fewer still kick ass.

I have to say that Paul's solo work hasn't been as consistent as the Mats' stuff. But what I don't get is that Paul wrote all the Replacements' stuff anyway. Perhaps he thinks better with Tommy around?

I'd love to see them back together, and think they could be fairly successful this time. Hell, if there's a market for the Goo Goo Dolls, then the Mats deserve to be there as well.

It's quite funny that you should link this article, as I finally found and bought the 2-cd compilation All For Nothing this past week. The worst thing is that I haven't been able to access the multimedia part of the discs as of yet, and for the fact that the b-side of Can't Hardly Wait,Cool Water is nowhere to be found! Searching the bins tonight at a real record store, I found a copy of said 45, but it was a promo copy with the a-side on each side.

A couple of things that I found humorous about the RS article: the 'chance' meeting in Paul's driveway, and the 'duties' that Tommy has on the new Guns and Roses album. Hello! How many years overdue is THAT already? (Not that I'm waiting for it or anything). At this rate, there will be 2 new NO albums before ol' Axl gets his head together.

Okay, so they may not be able to get away playing some of the old thrashier stuff, but there is still a rich catalog of great songs there waiting to be heard by the great unwashed public.

Tommy is a slut!! He did that thing with Puff Daddy (was that the band Squirrel?) and now he's hanging with Axl. I think the world is better off if G'n'R don't ever get that album out. I had a copy of that ep with Patience on it and listened to it after years of it gathering dust. I listened to the words of "One in a Million" and just had to throw it away. How can someone take the time to write lyrics like that and actually put it out for mass consumption? What a sad life Axl must have led.

I disagree, Green, that the Mats will get a better reception. I think they really deserve to, but it won't happen. They're just one of those bands that people rip off or cite as an influence but the general population just doesn't get it. Kinda like NO. I'm anxious to see what develops of this reunion, or if this ends up the same way those remastered Twin Tone albums did (not happening).

Gotta admit that was mostly my wishful thinkin' about them being received better these days, a case of believing what I wanted to believe. (Based partly on the fact that RS ran a great review of the recently reformed as well Mission of Burma's live gig in NYC. I think that equaled the coverage they received while they were around the first time). Oh well, still hoping that they get through to more people on the next go round. Wait a minute, didn't they open up for Tom Petty on a whole tour? You're right, it will probably be no better this time.

Damn, Maryland's gonna win in basketball, and I'm gonna lose out on the office pool money. I definitely need to get something else to drink.
