I must voice my protest regarding the anglophiliac use of the following terms:

My fellow Americans should stop using such terms trying to not stick out, because it makes them stick out more. :D
That said, my favorite English movie (because I don't think I've seen any from elsewhere in Britain to be honest) is Alfie though the 51st state is slowly growing on me. :P

My favorite UK movie is probably A Clockwork Orange, but here are some others I like a lot:
Lawrence of Arabia The 39 Steps Great Expectations (David Lean version) The Bridge on the River Kwai Chariots of Fire The Full Monty Monthy Python and the Holy Grail Zulu The Lady Vanishes The Italian Job (1969) Goldfinger The Madness of King George Shakespeare in Love Brazil Sense and Sensibility The Man Who Would be King Elizabeth The Day of the Jackal Dr. Strangelove

Was the version of Midsummer Night's Dream in which Keanu Reeves and Denzel Washington played Don John and Don Pedro from the US or the UK?
Because that was kinda funny...

I'm pretty sure that's an American film. It was produced by Hollywood, directed by an American and the main actors are American. Some films seem to be simultanesously considered American and British, such as Dr. Strangelove, so who knows.

My favorite British movie is Chariots of Fire. There are a few others that I like, but that one is in my top 5 of all time.

Brit movies- Monty Python, Remains of the Day, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Crying Game-- there's others I'm sure, but those are the ones off the top of my head.
UK films: A Clockwork orange (although I thought this was also American) 24 Hour Party People Depeche Mode - 101, although it was filmed in the US.

I'm Sure he's done several shakespearean roles in his time in the theater; Hasn't he done king Lear in a film? or maybe I dreamt that

That's a tough call, because on the one hand it's directed by Gilliam (the only American in Monty Python), but a predominantly British cast (with the notable exception of Robert DeNiro, Kim Griest, and I think Katherine Helmond). Filmed in Britain with a British crew...it's really up to your own view (I consider it British just because it's 1984 but with a wicked sense of humor)

I haven't seen a lot of foreign films (i.e., films from places other than the US or UK and in a different language), but of the ones I've seen:
Germany - Das Boot
Sweden - The Seventh Seal (I remember seeing it in a little independent theater years ago in the college town I went to first, I was sucked in from the first few minutes onward)
France - The Battle Of Algiers (saw this in Film lab, could've wrapped it up after the climatic scene in the hideaway but otherwise a good flick...might be considered Italian, though)
Russian - Battleship Potemkin (silent movie, of course, thus no Russian dialogue to sort through)

You're not Wrong, Michael Mann is a genius, and i think far too underated against the likes of Scorsese and Coppola speilberg and all the other top rated american directors
