I am going to make my pitch for Manchester City Football Club.
Rivalry -- Manchester City is arch rivals with Manchester United. Man United is the Yankees. They spend the most; have their own TV network, etc. You hate the Yankees, I hate the Yankees, I hate Manchester United, and you should hate Manchester United. In fact they show Man U games on the YES Network.
Fans -- I spent a semester in college in Manchester. All the Manchester City fans are the local hardworking types. They say the Man City fans are in Manchester and Man U fans live in Dubai and Hong Kong. In the late '90s Man City was relegated a couple of times (they were playing on the level of Double-A baseball) All the Second Division teams average 8,000-10,000 fans, Man City averaged 30,000 plus fans. Their fans are incredibly loyal, good or bad.
I could go on and on about my love for City and why you should take them under your wing too, but I will give you one final point. If you're a City fan and they finish in 15th place but they beat Man U, then you had a sucessful year. Beating Man U is all that matters. In case anyone cares, this same article is linked in a thread on the "World in Motion" forum. As I said there,I think this was written (at least partly) tongue in cheek.
We should decide if that is going to really be THE football forum, then we can know to put the football related stuff there rather than here.

Don't like the term EPL it's up there with PK and GK and hasdfkljhasfkjhasdklfjh
and aren't the spurs a bandwagon team as well? City isn't he shoulda went with City! or Newcastle.. that'd have been funny.

also I remember everyone being against a separate football/soccer forum because supposedly that's what BCD was created for, but whatever :shrugs:

I think it's a decent article. Some of his jokes are funny, some are stupid. Overall, a pretty good primer for someone who isn't überfamiliar with the EPL (sorry CM). More for American readers, especialy with all the American sports references in it.
The thing about the Newcastle players being sent off for fighting each other was great! I didn't know Bin Laden and, even worse, Wil Weaton, were Arsenal fans. I may have to consider changing alegances. I like the fact that Gerrard turned down the big bucks to stay with Liverpool.
Why isn't McCartney a Liverpool fan? 
Not all of his analogies to American sports are very valid, but oh well.

This does look like a site a Red Sox fan would do about the Yankees. 
Also funny that I'm a Yankees fan but support Arsenal, the "Red Sox" of the EPL. Maybe I need to switch allegiances to Man United!
