Life on Mars :thumb:

The first season of this show just started on BBCAmerica* tonight. So I watched the first episode tonight. It's pretty good. So anyone in the US with BBCAmerica should watch it. They are rerunning it a gazillion times a week it seems. When they aren't showing Alan fucking Titchmarsh's, that is.

Now all of you who've seen the show already can have a go and say how fucking bad it is etc, you contrary bastards. :dead:

I swear to god in Philly at least, you see more billboards and bus ads for BBCAmerica shows than for any local grown shit... I watched an episode of Hex based on the ads...and didn't really like it.

Yeah, I don't know if I can wait for the series to really get underway here when I know there must be a way I can download the whole thing from the internets.. then when series 2 gets underway I'll be able to download that from UKNova ;)

Ye,quality telly for a change Life on Mars and Rome, have been my only wanna see telly this year,barring sport.Keep watching.The guy who plays John Simm's partner in it,is a fuckin treat.He gets some great lines,in a show that I thought should'nt work,and would be daft..Its also good the way it contrasts 1970's policing methods with Simm's Character's own...I'll be tuning in for series(or season,as the colonials say)2 for more

I agree about BBC America--I don't want to watch 6 straight hours of Cash in the Attic or what have you! And I wish they'd show The Mighty Boosh and such earlier than 3 AM. (Though it was worth staying up that late to see it.)

Loved it. Wasn't sure if the humour and situations were a litte too British for it to be appreciated overseas - obviously not!!

Sad news about the second series is that one of the main characters won't be in it - the brown Cortina 2000E was last seen heading towards the local scrap yard.

Being a fan of The Sweeney and The Professionals ('hard hitting' 1970's UK TV cop show's for those not from the UK!) was not expecting much here. But I have to say Life On Mars is the best thing on UK TV for years. Also interesting is that John Simm in interviews about LOM said he based his charracter of Sam Tyler on Lewis Collins Bodie from The Professionals and there are many locations from the Greater Manchester area which are used in the series. For example Stockport Council's offices are the fictional police HQ and some streets/pubs in and around the Old Trafford area were used for filming in Series 1 (perhaps some of the Manchester Order who are fans of the show could help out with locations here!) and I'm hoping to get the DVD soon and definately looking forward to Series 2!

I missed the first series, which i was gutted about.

Yesterday they were filming on one of our council estates for the second series. Apparently one of our Housing Managers was trying to stick a 'Boltonathome' sticker on one of the retro cars - hilarious

I know what you mean about John Simm's charracter being more like Doyle than Bodie, but he mentioned his Bodie inspiration for Sam Tyler on a BBC Four documentary on LOM. I'd say that Phillip Glenister's charracter was based on Regan from The Sweeney and I think the Chalk and Cheese mix of '70's biggot cop with 2000's sophisticated cop worked well!

Yep, that's all I see whenever I get a chance to see what's playing on that channel, so I've not really been paying attention to the other things as much; I did see a promo for LOM when watching an Avengers episode though, looked good to me.

One of the best 'chill out no brain needed' 'things' on tele this year...........except for.........sport is the ONLY exception. Course there is BB........:D

Aye... feckin loved it.

The ending of the final episode was a bit of a shocker though, when the spaceship landed at Old Trafford and the little green men got out.

Can't wait for the next series, but what a cliffhanger.
