YOUR BEST EVER HOLIDAY
Mine was to Playa De Las Americas in Tenerife in January 1998 with 8 mates. Just a proper good laugh from start to finish. Saddens me to think that due to marriage, kids and generally everybody (except me) growing up it's unlikely to be repeated.
For me, it was probably Las Vegas a few years ago. Day trips to Death Valley, Zion National Park, Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam, and getting to enjoy the Vegas nightlife in the evenings. An outdoorsey and an urban vacation.

strapped on a backpack and hit the rails in Europe. 17 countries in 12 weeks.
I would do it again tomorrow if I had 12 weeks to spare.
Got to be 2004....NEW YORK! Decided to book a flight on my own 3 weeks after I split up with the wife.Paid £280 direct flight BA,and a weeks accomodation worked out about £15 a night.Stayed on West End Avenue,took in all the sights,and got pissed every night.Favourite bars were Scruffy Duffys on Hells Kitchen,Red Lion on Greenwich Village,and did a few karaoke bars.MONTY'S WORLD TOUR and that!
Speaking of Karaoke,you Yanks are born performers! I'm sure when you pop out of the old womb,you come out with a top hat!!
Can't believe though,the first night I was there,didn't cash enough travellers cheques,and this American girl lent me $20.Tried to ring her everyday to give it her back.
Also got to go in CBGB one night,wasn't impressed with the band that night.Joey Ramone must have been turning in his grave.
The one thing which struck me about the place,was not just that I was in awe of the place,but every bar I went in,within 10 minutes I ended up chatting to complete strangers.Friendly bunch you Yorkers!

Non New Order Gig : New York and Seattle in 2003 with me Bruv DoN has to be it, 15 days in America meeting up with loads of New Order Onliners - getting drunk most of the time and taking in Celtic v Man Utd at the Seahawks stadium. Cannae remember the score though 
Barcelona last year and Madrid / Barca this year were fucking great as well though. Have I told anyone I got on the Guest List 
one week in Constanca, Romania,Iwas a teenager, fookin great memorys Even better than my first trip to West Germany,hehehe
a tie: my trip backpacking around europe and morocco in 1995 was pretty awesome. two of my friends and me, and we all had the same interests and wanted to visit the same places (and stay away from the damn tourists!).
also, my roadtrip around colorado, utah, arizona and new mexico with a friend--summer of 1996. we started out at my house in denver and drove and drove, sleeping in tents the whole time. one would drive while the other would chill in the passenger seat and have a smoke. brilliant.

Barca 04: Went with a load of mates skating. Friend got his bag with his wallet and passport robbed on the first day. Our hotel was upgraded to a 4* in the middle of town, handy for access to places/dealers/skate spots. Great time
Amsterdam 06: Brother's birthday - usual 'Dam stuff i guess
Went to Las Vegas for Christmas one year, very cool place to be
ERm, im off to NYC next year with my girlfriend for her birthday, so i'm sure that will probably rank top of the list when the time comes :D
Honeymoon in Antigua was pretty good, I have to say. Two weeks wasn't long enough though, could have stayed forever.
Strangely enough I don't really enjoy holidays that include a lot of travelling. I have no ambition to travel anywhere and don't see the point of it.
I think a week off in the area you live in is just as pleasant as visiting anywhere abroad.
The best holidays for me are based on who you are with, so the NO gigs abroad and weeks I've spent in Manchester visiting old friends.

Similar tale to yours. Ten of us in Las Americas, April 1996. My mate Goat's (who a few people here know) stag do. Ten of the closest friends. Best, and maybe the saddest, holiday of my life. Culmination of years of friendship, then we started to drift thereafter. Absolute carnage from start to finish for that entire week though. You name it, we did it. But within a year three of the lads had moved abroad (they still live abroad to this day) and from 10 lads all living in London only 2 of us remain in town now and perhaps only 5 of us are still genuinely close, although due to people's displacement now (lads in Stockholm, Boston, Munich, etc) I'm lucky if I see some of them once, maybe twice a year. And all 10 of us haven't been in the same room since the wedding itself perhaps 2 weeks after we got back.

Interesting points there Grahame. I have always wondered whether the type of people who don't 'grow up' e.g. you, me and others are programmed differently to those who do settle down, get married have kids, or whether it comes down to opportunity?
I sometime feel a bit out of place with female friends my age, don't suppose it should matter really though!
Best holiday,probably with the other half and son in Florida (see below!). Although i can see its a Marmite kind of place-you love it or hate it. Me,i`d move out there today except i cant because of work. Been on a few "lads trips" that will live with me forever too!

Which is the main reason the New Order holidays / get togethers are second to none

Crete July 1990. Went on third place play off day. Missed the World Cup Final, too smashed.
Soundtrack was World In Motion, Fools Gold, Step On, This Is How It Feels and that Chad Jackson one and Barefoot In The Head.
The next year wasn't bad either.

Well I've 'settled' & had kids - but I don't think i've grown up
at least I hope not!
I'd be the same as you for holidays Ness - its not where you are, its who you are with that makes it memorable

This past New Year's Eve. I started at a friend's house watching DM videos, went to a club, had a lot of alcohol, and winded up in a hot tub with four other people at 5am.
That's a tough one... I don't take real holidays very often and really only since the last 5 years...
I took my share of cruise because I was given that as a wedding gift by my parents for my honeymoon, and my wife enjoys them very much, now I'm trying to convince her to do something else because I need to do more than that!
So far, I'd say my best was travelling all over Quebec, go the the Magdelene Islands, a little piece of Paradise in the St-Lawrence Gulf, accessible by 4 hours of ferry (or plane of course)... and then did the tour of New-Brunswick and Gaspésie (Québec), that was a pretty awesome 2 weeks.
But now I'm ready to do a little more travelling, and I guess my upcoming England/France week could challenge that ;)

I think a week off in the area you live in is just as pleasant as visiting anywhere abroad.

I totally agree that it's all about who your with, which is why I've never grasped the concept of holidaying on your own. But to say you've no ambition to travel anywhere is a bit odd. Just a change of scenery is enough for me, it doesn't even have to be that exciting. You cannae wack that feeling of being a bit lost and a bit pissed in a place you've never been before knowing that you've nothing to do the next day but more of the same! Factor in some good mates to share that with you and your on a winner.
Just don't get too pissed. I could start a whole other thread about scrapes and near disasters I've got involved in on foreign soil.....Don't fuck with the security gaurds in Tenerife and don't fly into Brisbane Airport if you've ever taken something stronger than a paracetemol. And don't drink beer on the street in Tijuana.
For me it's a toss up between 2 holidays. Goa 12 years ago or New York 3 years ago. Both amazing holidays for lots of different reasons.
Ideally i would win lots of money and be on a permanent holiday (or at least go to Brazil to see New Order). That would probably top the list of best holidays ever.

Rio, 1999 with 3 mates was probably the tops.One of the places i'd always wanted to go to.A bummer i cant return there for the NO gigs.

I often think about the last holiday I spent with my parents and sister, as a family. We all went to Las Vegas, but drove all over Nevada and into Colorado too.
Interesting how many of the posts are about the last holiday with a paticular group of people.
Another great one was my friend's wedding in Ibiza - 75 of us went out there and had a whale of a time.

I think I mingle with too many people who don't seem to have the need to be a bit wild every so often. I suppose that is seen traditionally as growing up, but it shouldn't be the case I agree!

Yeah, I suppose you have got a point - have had great time in Europe with this lot over the last couple of year.
I tend to find the money/planning/flying/getting there bit stressful and I have this feeling that I should be saving for my old age and not blowing cash on such frolicsome activities.

I was in Samui in '98. Watched Scotland v Brazil in the opening game of the World Cup in the Green Mango. Lovely place.
Come to think of it I did get a pair of flip flops nicked from the front of my bungalow. Were you there in June by any chance?
