Leeds/Reading

Anyone else from here going to Leeds or Reading festivals?

I have a weekend ticket to Leeds - but it is likely I will only be using it on the Friday night to see Pearl Jam, cos I'm trying to get myself a day ticket to Reading on the Sunday to see them again.

Might prove hard seeing as how I have next to no money - some begging is in order I think.

I thought I was sorted for a Reading ticket through one of my dad's mates but not any more, which sucks big time.

As far as the line up goes - what a pile of wank, in my opinion. I only wanna see one band on the entire line up.

I did that to see the pixies at the move festival (and the lancs cricket grounds) in 04.

I was stood at the front for tons of bullshit

The pixies started playing and the moshing throng threw me back

Never going to a festival for one band again. (Not even New Order)

i do think the lineup this year is a bit....shitty.

None of the festivals have made me come close to buying a ticket. Not that i could ever afford them

Festivals and tents are ace! Went to V a few years back. Parked a million miles away from the site and had to carry loads of heavy camping equipment to our intended space. Got there to find my ex stalker of a bloke sitting there with some of my best friends that he'd travelled to stafford with!

My brother and friends managed to lose me on the first night on the way back from the last show...............and they had my phone so i ended up in a tent in the middle of nowhere with 2 blokes who finally managed to get me back to one of my group. Shame really!

Got left with the stalker ex the next day as no one could put up with him. Ended up having the worse argument i ever had with my brother, (with the ex swaying disgustingly in the background as if he was nothing to do with the cause). My brother fucked off and left me............again with a phone with no battery.

Ex finally got the message (8 months in the making) when seeing me snog someone else and then tried to beat him, unsuccessfully, up. Dope.

Pissed down with rain.

Got up and went home the next day and got hit on the M1 near Milton keynes at 80 miles an hour by a lorry driver who managed to launch my car sideways and write my poor baby off.

Still.............lived to tell the tale and it was one of the best weekends ever!

Erm.........forgot that an hour prior to getting hit, car broke down for 2 hours in a multi storey car park where the AA could not find me in Birmingham!:(

I'll be at Leeds on the saturday, and possibly sunday.

As for having an shit line up. What a load of complete bollocks. Like any festival, it has its fair share of shit, (Pearl Jam, worst headliners since Linkin Park if you ask me, (and if i see a gold circle there I'll know exactly who to blame) Fall out Boy, Panic at the Disco etc) but the quality this year is top notch. Muse, Franz, Kaisers, Placebo, Hope Of the States, The Automatic, The Young Knives, Metric, Broken Social Scene, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Fields, Mystery Jets, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Belle and Sebastien, Hot Chip, Field Music...

Still, not as good as last years, when I saw editors open the 2nd stage, arctic monkeys mid afternoon in the new bands tent, and truly brilliant performances from Arcade Fire and Foo fighters, before seeing a few songs by The Tears played in front of less than 100 people.

Or the year before, when Morrissey opened with How Soon Is Now (which was quite nice at the time, not now though), and there were great sets from Ordinary Boys (when they were good), and Franz.

Still, V has a much better line up this year. not that i'll remember any of it!

I never really like Reading/Leeds lineups anyway except for a few bands on the smaller stages.

Was hoping to go as a roadie for Serena Maneesh [was unlikely anyway :/]but I'm going to Rotterdam the same weekend.

Muse - Saw them at Ulster Hall. Crap.

Franz - Seen them twice. Mediocre.

Placebo - Saw at Oxegen. Mediocre.

Mystery Jets - Saw on NME tour. Rubbish.

Hope Of the States - Saw at Oxegen. Mediocre.

Kaisers - Rubbish

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - First album's passable. That's it.

Belle and Sebastian - Mediocre

There are some cracking bands on at Leeds/Reading. Avoid Clap Your Hands Say Yeah though

V has Radiohead, Beck & Moz though, seems a far better lineup IMO.

I wish The The would play. With Johnny Marr. Saw them in Manchester years ago and it's still the best gig I've been to.

personaly i don't think you can judge bands by their festival performances (unless they really shine) the atmosphere is completely different for a start

I was at this gig, and it was phenomenal to say the least. Considering i didnt even like Muse at the time, thats quite an achievement.

Secondly, I have a pretty good guess about how many gigs you go to. two reasons, you live in belshaft which, lets face it, is not known for its gig activity. And the other reason is most of the time you go to a gig, you cant wait to get on here and tell us all about it.

Thirdly, I note that those bands you used the smiley for, are mostly small bands who havent released an album yet, or if they have its been relatively low key. So i'm thinking that an idiot like you hasnt bothered to listen to them.

Aye I was at that gig too, thought they were excellent. Twas a Saturday night if I can recall. They are far better live than on cd IMO. Must have been one big happy NOOL night at the Ulster Hall
