It has been confirmed that Marr is a member of the American band Modest Mouse. It has been revealed he not only wrote some of the songs on the album that the band is working on, but is also playing guitar on the album. According to band leader Isaac Brock, he will also be touring with the band in support of the new album, tentatively titled We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank.

I saw this as well but haven't actually heard any of their (Modest Mouse) stuff. I gather they're an "Alternative Rock" US band but are their tunes any good?
Also heard some rumours a few months ago that Marr was compiling a Smiths boxset including unreleased material but aside from that he was generally "bored". That might mean his Healers band has hit the skids. Understandable really as the first album didn't exactly set the world on fire and failed to show off any of the talents he's famous for (I.e. being a guitar ace) Half the album sounded like Twisted Tenderness rejects and the other half pub-rock.
He should initiate a Page & Plant type reunion with Mozzer but concentrate on making new songs rather than cashing in on the reunion circuit. Doubt that'll happen though.

I'm not too impressed by them. Maybe Marr will improve them, though.

I like MM based solely on the two albums I have by them, so as long as the frontman doesn't suddenly start throwing gladiolas to the audience and writhe about the stage in an ambiguous angst, it would be alright by me for Johnny to pitch in

coz according to the AMG webby, their music is described as being angst-ridden cathartic brooding and Volatile.
Modest Mouse aren't too bad, friends with The Flaming Lips so they're a bit 'alternative'.
I just thought Marr was a very strange addition

Well, I can't stand the Flaming Lips either so there you go. 
well that's good news for people who love bad news....
(whioch was voted top ten in the planet sound end of year poll in 2004 when it was released - it's an okay album, but they've been around years haven't they?)

Is he an official member, or is he just helping out, like as a support member? I think he deserves to be in a better band than Modest Mouse.
Stupidest thing Marr did was go seperate ways with the Moz. Anything ever since he has done has fallen flat. I know, I know, Electronic is great, but really, if it weren't for him relying on NO and Smith fans to buy the albums, it would have gone nowhere.

He also played with Quando Quango for a hot minute... which I think is how he and Bernard (producer) first met.

Modest Mouse is one of the more interesting American indie rock bands of the last decade, have kept their indie attitude even with some success, and have a left field mentality.... seems like a good if unexpected fit, maybe this will inspire these aging artists
You have to give Marr a lot of credit... he doesn't take the easy road and repeat himself. Marr could have easily rested on his laurels after the Smiths and created a new "Smith-like" band with Marrs in full control, but he didn't.
I don't know if this has ever been discussed but wouldn't it have been extremely cool if Marr had joined New Order after Gillian left? 
...I think this would have been a great fit potentially ... but might this have had too many ego problems, maybe an "Electronic vs. Hooky and Steve" conflict and having a "junior" member works better personality wise...

He would've been my first pick when Gil had to leave, but I guess the guys wanted to go with someone younger (and with less baggage like twenty-something years of recording under their belt). It would be interesting to see how the direction of the band might have been on the subsequent albums since.

Johnny Marr and the Healers are crap, saw them live 4-5 years ago when they were supporting Oasis in Warsaw and it wasn't good...
Nevertheless Johnny Marr is THE GOD and i love him to bits whatever he does. MM might be better with him, looking forward to hearing the material.

He did not support NO at Manchester v Cancer! Johnny Marr was playing with his own band as did Elbow, 808 State, BDB, Doves etc....or are you referring to all those bands as support bands to NO?
The only Modest Mouse song I know is "Float On." It's a pretty catchy tune, but their only hit.
I really wish there would be another Electronic album.
