drunk like a Pole ?

That is what we say... soûl comme un Polonais...

We could start a thread with this... French say : to be drunk like a Pole. Czechs say : to be drunk like a Dane... What about you in Poland ?

We say drunk like a Scot. BTW. Do you know Jiphi the origin of Drunk Like A Pole phrase? I think it was invented by the French when we fought together on Somosierra, Spain. Long time ago, cheers mate and dont be ashamed to drink, heheheh

Drunk as a Lord in England.

Hence the old joke (repeated here for historical rather than hysterical purposes) about the man in the dock who claims he was as drunk as a judge at the time of the offence.

The judge looks at him sternly and asks "Don't you mean 'drunk as a Lord'"?

The defendant, realising what he's done, replies "Yes m'Lord, sorry m'lord."

Scot's just say "Pished", or any one of a million words (like the Eskimos and snow!)

I found these following statements on a Russian site for translators :

Poles and French drank and the Poles won. So Napoléon said : "Be drunk, but be drunk like a Pole". Long time ago indeed.

Also, about the Poles, the following idiomatic sentence : "pijany jak Moskal". Did you lie to us ?

In Spain : "borracho como un marinero inglès"

And, I cannot drink anymore... This is quiet like an allergy... My legs and my arms become bigger (no kidding - just like an old fat lady legs) and gives me a Frankestein way of walking... Strange... Already three years... The doctors cannot say where it comes from but testify this is not normal... By now, a sip of Pils gives me the same taste in my mouth than a glass of Wyborowa when I was fine...

My condolences on your allergy. So every country thinks their neighbors are alcoholics?

EDIT: I'm not aware of an nationality that we make fun here of for drinking a lot. But someone can prove me wrong.

I remember a military meeting between the French and the Polish armies when I was doing my time. Polish officers said that it was more enjoyable by the time of the Warsaw agreement because they used to drink themselves to the ground with the Russians... and that we were not able to do so with them... that it was no fun...

Yeah, those Russians are world class drinkers. I probably couldn't keep up in the vodka department with a 5 year old Russian who's just given blood.
