Enough? I haven`t even started yet! The only decent band to come out of Liverpool in the last 40 years was Echo & The Bunnymen.

The problem is that the baby boomers created religious status to their generation's music. Once you hit 35 you pretty much close off to new music and stick with what you loved back in the day. But I'd take 60's tunes over the crap on commercial radio any day.

love a long pink floyd, instrumental

it screams lets get stoned, to the younger generation

60's music like The Stooges, MC5 and Velvet Underground are definitely not crap though. :thumb:

I don't like 60's music except for...

Sandie Shaw, The Kinks, The Who, R Dean Taylor, Dusty Springfield and some Diana Ross and the Rolling Stones

I like John Coltrane and Bobby Darin...the 1960's wasn't just all rock and roll... Just one year before the 1960's started, in 1959, the Dave Brubeck Quartet released their album Time Out, and it was a wonderful album.

Everyone probably likes some 60s stuff, but a lot of it was awful. But then were the 70s,80s or 90s any different?

Every decade had good and shit music. I hate the way people go on about the 70s though, now that DID have lots of shit music (or at least thats what me mum and dad keep sayin).

But really, no decade is quite so hyped as the 60's. When people think of the 70's and 80's, a lot of people just laugh.

I personally think that the kind of music that each decade is remembered for would usually be the mainstream stuff, for better or for worse. More people would answer "The Beatles" or "Jimi Hendrix" as 1960's music than "Sammy Davis Jr" or "John Coltrane". It's sad how many people (not anyone in particular here) overlook what actually existed in the decade.

The reason the 60's music is so overhyped is because of all the fuckin baby boomers. There are far too many of them and they think far to much of themselves. Once they all die off, things will be better. :)

I agree. I think the 70's music in general is worse than the 60's. I'm so sick of all that classic rock crap. I'd much rather listen to the Beatles, Mamas & Papas, the Grass Roots, the Animals, the Supremes, Four Tops, Temptations, Hollies, to name a few, rather than most of the 70's garbage. 70's started getting good about 1979, but that was just the leadup to the best decade of music. As someone else mentioned, you tend to stop listening to new bands around the age of 35, and long for the good old days, hence my ascertation the the 80's was the apex of Western Civilization.

what about the 1940s-50s music... so fucking overrated... the music has no BASS whatsoever, no matter how good your subwoofer is, and just try to name 100 of the best albums from this era! Elvis only made decent singles for a couple of years plus, apparently, only white people were recording music until about 1957. where is the hardcore shit? all they recorded was teeny boppy shit. and none of their singles has any remixes whatsoever!

Good call on Coltrane. Alot of good Jazz then, Miles Davis included. I don't think jazz has ever been done as wellas it was in the 60's.

What a chav-like attitude I'm seeing here.:nono: There was no technology for remixes back then, and there were plenty of black artists... Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald... I'm not asking for people to like older music like I do, but remember, electronic music is newer than rock music, and jazz music is older than rock music... The word "rock and roll" was coined (or at least let into the mainstream) by Alan Freed in 1954, though. Please, people, study your music history.

yeah. somehow i can't see them doing the hand jive to drum 'n' bass at the high school sock hops. anyway, it's kinda hard to feel said bass when you're dependent on AM radio.

i haven't gone to bed yet. i'm off work sick with this virus that just killed me. i've collapsed several times i the past two days and had to go to the ER for IV rehydration, heart monitor (mine was a bit high) and pain meds for my head, which feels as though someone took a hammer and pounded my eye sockets. i am about to go to bed. it's brain surgery trying to type this right now.

as for '60s music, you need the alex delarge treatment, my friend. oh, yes you do.
