Its ok... but it does sound a bit like Chime, in terms of layered sounds.

Not bad,but Orbital used to do this so much better. Pete Heller...did he used to do a lot of mixes with Terry Farley,stuff like The Farm and such back in the early '80s

Yeah, he was one half of Farley and Heller, More late 80s, though. They did Stepping Stone for The Farm. Also remixed/recorded under the name Fire Island, as in the Fire Island mix for Regret, in that name. The track Fire Island by Fire Island is in my all time top 10. Also released as Farley and Heller project - Ultra Flava under that monicker was a bit of a classic. Though not the vocal mix.
Never been a huge Orbital fan myself, always a bit hit and miss for me. Some cringeworthy wrong turns in their stuff. What's all that nonsense sampling Christopher Ecclestone about?
Orbital are one of these bands that folk who got into dance music about eight years after the rest of us always bang on about. Ditto The Chemical Brothers and Underworld. Probably something to do with the fact that they fit the "conventional" mould of a band (do gigs in rock venues, do interviews, do the front cover of NME). Never been moved by any of them.
Re. Fire Island. I would dearly love an mp3 of the 12" Extended Main Version of "Shout To The Top" from circa '98. I got it on vinyl when it came out but it's in long term storage with another several thousand records and I cannae find the main mix on any P2P sites, just a load of different mixes. Anyone help?
On another note, who did "Beat In Your Bones" which came out circa '92 on JBO? Sure F&H were involved somewhere? Mabye even a Fire Island release?....
You're right it was them. Didn't know Product of Da Neighbourhood was them. 'Living In Brooklyn' is superb.

never had them down as a 'dance' band though. Cant imagine the Hacienda rockin at lights up to Orbital

You are taking the piss, rrright?! I first saw Orbital in a pub in Islington in 1989. I say a 'pub' but it was called the Powerhaus, which you may have heard of. It's now a branch of the Abbey fcuking National.
Orbital. In a pub. On a stage about 18inches high.

Yeah.. as Jarvo said thats a bit rich. I used to go their Grasshopper club nights in Westerham c.1988/1989.. Chime was released in 1989 too.

Yeah....yer ma, I been listening to Orbital since, the very first release of Satan ( I bought the cassette single for 25p cos I liked the sleeve), which as far as I know was before the first album came out. I also discovered that Chime had been a fave of mine for over a year.
they appeal to me because, although I have always loved electronic sounds, I found that having been raised on a diet rich in New Order and the ZTT production crew, most dance music felt thin, empty, shallow and without substance. It further pissed me off that some of this stuff did so wel wheile the clearly superior output of NO fell by the wayside in comparison.
So Orbital, with their much deeper and more interesting music instantly appealed to me, I find their music very emotionally involving which can be hard to achieve with electronics. The fact they play live IS important to me, because it was always Gillian's way of tending her multiple black boxen that define my attitude to electronic performance.
Awesome tunes, and an attitude to music I totally empathise with, what more could I ask.
And as for shit songs? Hmmmm, I'm not best fond of Halcyon, I think much of the snivelisation album is produced a bit too well, and I think there are some fillers on the blue album, but apart from that, every song's a fucking blinder.

Blah blah blah blah. Yeah I saw Orbital in 1912 when they were a Chamber Act for Her Majesty Quenn Victoria Second. This was shortly before I invented rave and started DJing as a foetus in my mums womb stealing power from the gas powered streetlights of East London. BORING!!!!!
I don't need to justify my credentials to you mate. Was involved in the scene up here from the age of 16 in a DJing (which I still do to this day, three nights a week) and promoting (first person to bring Grandmaster Flash to Scotland, first person to bring Luv Dup to Glasgow, done nights with Justin Robertson, Emmerson, Kenny Hawkes, Colin Faver, Bukem, Aphrodite and litterally dozens of others.)
My point is......Orbital are a "student dance band". Hats off to yourself and Jarvo for being there back in the day, take a bow, but Orbital now don't mean what they did then. And i stand by the claim that there music is pretty gash!

Yeah i know what Ultra Flava is,just thought it was a more poppy style of the Fire Island stuff. Is that why it wasn`t on JBO? Nearly everything on that label was brilliant.
