Can anyone suggest good spy novels bearing in mind that I really liked "Spy From the Cold" by Le Carre and practically unfamiliar with other works. I read one by Flemming and one by James Chase whom I didn't like.

Other than Flemming, the only other I can think of is Clive Cussler...though not a traditional "spy" charactor in his books. More like Indiana Jones meets James Bond...
anything by John le Carre. I love all those characterisations.
although not stickly spy, but also check out Matin Cuz Smith and his Ardaky series starting with Gorky Park and Red Square.
The Ipcress File and Funeral In Berlin by Len Deighton are very good. Some of Frederick Forsyth's novels are excellent too.

Gorky Park was a GREAT novel.....but not sure how good it is now that the USSR is defunct.

Okay Ian, actually I'm not up on the spy stuff, though I must admit that I liked both Gorky Park and The Day Of The Jackal (years ago though). I tend to read more non-fiction stuff in general.
