one of the few politicians i really respected. former governor of texas; lost out to you-know-who. she wasn't afraid to stand up for her beliefs, especially her stand in in the pro-choice movement. this woman had balls.

Yes, she was. I had a chance to meet her while I was at UT. I had a friend whose old man was a local Dem rainmaker and arranged a quick meet and greet after a speech. She was actually a rather tall lady. For some reason that struck me.

My favorite image of her is a cover she did for Texas Monthly - she's in all white motorcyle leathers (with fringe) straddling a Harley.

While I disagreed with 95% of her politics, she was good for a few giggles.

That's what I liked about her. She was herself which was off the beaten path, and still her presence and everything about her demanded respect. She was a recovering alcoholic for christ's sake and that wasn't held against her because who she was.

I liked the whole "georgie was born with a silver foot in his mouth", it probably was staged and tested and practised all to heck...but she said it just like some southern grandma. Fucking awesome
